I wish the article had developed that statement further.
Dont know if hes taken postions on the other two, but this election will not be about social issues.
In my lifelong experience as a Christian, and living on the fringes of politics, I've learned that one really can't pigeonhole issues. Every election cycle has a social issues component. If we fail to acknowledge that fact, we risk losing on the non-social issues. Whatever a society believes or doesn't believe, that's the way the world works in the long run.
Fair enough, but sometimes it's not enough to look at the "surface" of the issue. You need to look at the core of the matter.
While I don't think Government has the right to prohibit voluntary prayer in any locale or circumstances, I'm certainly opposed to Government-sponsored prayer.
I don't want Government writing Prayers for my kids. They'll just screw it up.
And I don't think that there should be sponsored Prayer in the Public Schools, because I don't think that there should BE any Public Schools. They are immoral organizations, founded upon Theft, and all Christians should support their total abolition. We should not attempt to Sanctify that which is by nature Satanic.
Arguing about Prayer in Public Schools is as stupid as arguing about Prayer in a Den of Thieves. Instead of Praying about it, howzabout we just stop robbing people?
Fair enough, but the candidate seems to believe, and there are plenty here who can correct me if I’m wrong, that one does not have to disagree with conservatives on social issues in order to feel that government’s role in social issues should be limited.
In other words, there is no inconsistency is saying:
“I think there should be prayer in schools.” and saying, “I don’t think the federal government should ensure that there is prayer in schools.”
If fact, if you truly believe that people have a right to worship, then by definition, you believe that people have a right not to worship, and you find equally a government that enforces worship and one that enforces its exclusion.
Now I’m not the candidate, but that seems to be his view, and in my opinion, that view is a good one.
