Wauconda Marine cares for president's chopper
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | April 24, 2010 | JIM POWERS

When President Obama boards Marine One to fly to Andrews Air Force Base, helicopter crew chief Sgt. Brad Kelle has already been at work for at least four hours.

The Marine from northwest suburban Wauconda says the 100-foot helicopter, which seats 30, undergoes a meticulous cleaning, one that goes beyond normal maintenance. And the crew, he said, practices "picking up, coming down and doing a landing, and practice at least twice the full shutdown of the helicopter as part of our preparation."

Then the crew flies to the South Lawn of the White House, arriving at least two hours before the president is scheduled to take off.

President [George W.] Bush "was always on time or 5 minutes early," Kelle said, but Obama often runs a little behind.

"He likes to smoke a couple cigarettes before he gets on the copter," Kelle said. "He's a little nervous about flight."

Well I guess he sure as hell isn’t nervous about running the country into the ground.

SONOBUOY PING!

Click on pic for past Navair pings.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

He wouldn’t be as nervous if he had it in him to trust our military. He has the best of the best working on the gear he currently borrows from The People.

The Chicago Sun Times had it wrong. “marine” should be “Marine”.

This is a little odd...in the past, military personnel who worked on the presidential detail (White House Communications Agency; 89th Military Airlift Wing and Marine One) were not allowed to talk to the press. During the first Bush Administration, an Airman from the communications agency was actually fired for telling his hometown newspaper how nice the Bushes were. Didn’t matter that his comments were favorable; military personnel at the White House didn’t talk to the press (at least, on the record).

Perhaps things have changed. I’m assuming the Sun-Times interview was arranged through Marine Corps public affairs, although the p.a. flacks (and the Annointed One) can’t be happy with the smoking comment.

Something tells me this Marine may be moving on to a new assignment—if he hasn’t already.

I sincerely hope they’re joking...even as an “attempt” at humor, that sort of remark can you in a lot of trouble. We can get rid of the Annointed One at the ballot box, after he send Pelosi and Harry Reid packing.

Maybe reassignment was his goal when he talked to the press? It might have been worth it to him to risk a stripe for the purpose.

You’re probably correct. Anyway when I read it I thought it was pretty funny. The problem today is nobody can take a joke anymore this PC bull crap has got to stop.
