Malcolm X killer to go free after 44 years
CNN ^ | Tuesday, April 27, 2010 | Wayne Drash

(CNN) -- Thomas Hagan pleaded his case for freedom: To return to his family, to become a substance abuse counselor and to make his mark on what time he has left in this world.

He was dressed in prison greens as he addressed the New York parole board. He had been before that body 14 other times since 1984. Each time, he was rejected.

Hagan is no ordinary prisoner. He is the only man to have confessed in the killing of Malcolm X, who was gunned down while giving a speech in New York's Audubon Ballroom in 1965.

"I have deep regrets about my participation in that," he told the parole board on March 3, according to a transcript. "I don't think it should ever have happened."

The board granted him his wish. On Wednesday, Hagan, 69, will be free.

Was re-reading “The Ballot or the Bullet” last night. Sounded like Obama.

So he’s been in “full-time work release” since March 1992, but siring children since 1989? And those “two other grown children” — are they older than the 44 years he’s been allegedly locked up?

“His primary mission is to help his four children, ages 21, 17, 14 and 10. He has two other grown children.”

Hagan should have been executed back in 1965.

The other 2 men convicted with him were released some time ago. He doesn’t claim innocence, they did. Louis Farahkahn later honored one of those men.

Basically, he killed Malcolm X because he wasn’t violent or radical enough, right?

Not quite.
He killed Malcolm X because of the fight between Malcolm X and Elijah Mohamed. Elijah Mohamed (the founder/leader of the Black Muslims), had become jealous of Malcolm X's popularity and success in the organization, and was worried that Malcolm X could take over the outfit sooner or later.
At the time, Elijah Mohamed, who had very strict rules about adultery within the organization, had himself earlier on proceeded to inflate two of his secretaries and gotten them pregnant. That created tension between Mohamed and X.
Not long after that, JFK was assassinated, and X made his infamous statement that the “Chickens had come home to roost” for the white man", despite Mohamed warning his "ministers" not to say anything about the JFK assassination. That gave Mohamed all the excuse he needed to “suspend” X from the organization. X then proceed to go form his own Muslim organization and started poaching members from Mohamed's Black Muslims, even while threatening to expose Mohamed's crimes, so Mohamed decided to take him out. He hired 3 gunmen to do the deed. This fellow was one of them.
