Early Voting Exit Poll: Breazeale 51.7% - Pantano 41.4%

The Fuller Campaign Committee has released the first exit poll from early voting. The poll, which was conducted Saturday, May 1st, included results for races from U.S. Congress, State Senate, and New Hanover County Commissioners. In the U.S. Congressional race, numbers are looking good for Will Breazeale. The results show Breazeale leading his nearest primary challenger, Ilario Pantano, 51.7 to 41.4%.

"We are very pleased that the early numbers are trending our way," observed Breazeale. "However, this race is still a long way from being over. We need each and every one of our dedicated voters to get out on Election Day. We are taking nothing for granted."

Helping bolster Breazeale's early voting numbers was a recent publication from the Wilmington Star-News' Editorial Board that talked about his ability to connect with Tea Party voters. The column read:

This is the second time he (Breazeale) has sought to challenge McIntyre, and he has done so with energy and determination. In many ways he seems closer than his primary challenger to the spirit of the Tea Party movement that has brought momentum to this off-year election and likely would be a voice for a group that is feeling disenfranchised.

"While this exit poll is a reflection that our message of true conservative values is being embraced, we will continue to fight for every vote, in every county, in every precinct, through Election Day. These numbers are promising. We will need all of our voters to stand up and fight with us on May 4th," Breazeale stated.

If I had known Ilario Pantano were running for office I would have sent him some money.

Maybe they’re looking a little deeper than you think.

If they did look deeper- they would not be supporting Pantano. Trust me.

RE: "sadly there are alot of people that just look at him writing a book and like him. kinda like our president now...Just words, just speeches"

Is there more to the fact that Lt. Pantano was exonerated of murdering two Iraqi insurgents?

I recall the story at the time and the IMO overwhelming support for the Marine.

Interested people might want to read 2nd Lt Pantano's chaplain in Iraq opinion (in the reader's comments on Amazon)

There's more to Pantano than "Just words, just speeches" it appears to me now and back then.

There is, He has lied about being retired from the USMC, he lied about being a deputy (he flashed a badge when he wasn’t certified), he has refused to release his financials. He is hiding something

I thought you might be interested in these letters to the Editor of the Wilmington Star News.

Character assassination
Will Breazeale and Ilario Pantano are two Republicans running for the 7th District Congressional seat. Breazeale has been attacking Pantano’s character along with Pantano’s past military record and involvement with Defend the Defenders.org. Pantano’s honorable discharge from the Marine Corps speaks for itself.

Defend the Defenders organization was started by Pantano’s mother and after Pantano was exonerated of all charges of his Article 32 hearing, Defend the Defenders.org went on to help other veterans around the country that needed legal assistance. This also speaks for itself.

I was the commander of our local American Legion Post 10 when Pantano was preparing for his hearing. We of Post 10 called him and offered our assistance, not to judge guilt or innocence, but help raise money for his legal fees. … Letters and donations were unbelievable. …

Pantano could have made a deal with the prosecutors, but would not give an inch. His determination to prove his complete innocence was not for sale, and nonnegotiable, that’s called “character and integrity,” that’s what Marines of Pantano’s caliber are made of.

Stick to the issues of the serious political matters at hand instead of trying to assassinate your opponent’s character.

I know Pantano will have that same character and integrity serving us in Congress as he did serving his country.

Why I Support Ilario Pantano for Congress
I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Pantano just a few days after he announced his candidacy to become our next U.S. congressman right here in the 7th district. A friend was interviewing him for UNCW's Conservative Hawk newspaper, which I have written for on occasion, so I sat in on the interview.

I was immediately impressed by Mr. Pantano's sincere interest in our efforts to spread conservatism across UNCW's campus. Ironically, Mr. Pantano ended up asking us more questions than we asked him during the interview.

As time began to run short, I will never forget something that he said. In a unassuming voice, looking us straight in the eyes with a piercing stare, he said, my God, my family, and my country is the basis for all that I do. He then went on to say, I don't know where you gentlemen stand with your God, or how strong your faith is, but I would encourage you to seek God's council.

Mr. Pantano sharing his faith with us was a true testament to the character of a man who had been through a lot and become whole once more. He could have just as easily spent the entire time talking about himself, his politics, his endorsements, his fundraising, his awards, and his connections, but he didn't. No, he didn't, instead he stood humbly before us and shared his faith.

Thank you for the references. They remind me of the outpouring of support for Lt. Pantano at the time of the charges.

There was much discussion here.
