IT'S the five-letter word our state's police should get used to being called.
A university student was yesterday cleared of an offensive language charge after a local court magistrate ruled the word "prick" was part of the every-day vernacular.
Waverley Local Court magistrate Robbie Williams made his comments during a hearing for science student Henry Grech, 22, who was charged following a heated argument with Senior Constable Adam Royds at Bondi Junction train station last year.
Mr Williams said he wasn't satisfied that a "reasonable person'' would be offended by the word prick in general conversation.

If you were a cop and some guy or gal decided to swear at you, would you bash in their mouth and break their teeth with your baton?
You can prick your finger....but don’t finger your p——.
nasty talk has been promoted by our presidente so im sure this is exceptable...jeez
The 98% of police that ARE pricks give the 2% that AREN’T pricks a bad name.....
Sounds like the bobbies are acting like sissies.
oh please.
and spraypainting “Islam will rule the world” on a war memorial was not religiously motivated either.

free speech and all that... so don’t be such a prick...
any cop that can’t take name calling does not need to be a cop.
and if he ticketed someone for expressing themselves, he should lose, yes lose, his badge.
teeman
Absolutely I would.
Then I'd try to get a job in the hardware department at Home Depot while my real estate agent sees how much I can get for my house in order to pay my lawyer for his first 3 months of legal fees...........all that happening after I clean out my savings account in order to post bail, of course.
What would be the result had he called him a “vagina?”
I told an off duty cop he was nuts and he jumped over a picnic table to attack me.
If I had done the same thing to him, I would have done 5 years in prison.
Equal protection under the law?
I can’t believe how people curse now a days. Vice President Cheney was a potty mouth too and was disgusting.
I would have hated to see it go the other way.
I dare you to tell him that to his face or say that when I am present.
98% is probably pessimistic. But if I meet up with a cop who acts professionally, I tell him. If I meet one acting like something else, they hear about that too.
A judge named Robbie? [chuckle]
Well I will never have the chance to do so. But really I would want to but I respect authority...lol.
“” ... (former vice-president, Richard) Cheney, was a potty mouth too and was disgusting. “”
Any evidence of the former and/or examples of his having been the latter to back that otherwise gratuitous back-hander?
The police are trained professionals, members of the public should NOT try this.
You have not been on Free Republic long if you don’t know that President Cheney used curse words. It does not matter now as he is no longer in office, but I believe that all high powered folks in positions use curse words occasionally.
