Let’s be honest. Barack Obama is the SEIU president. Without that union’s support early on, he would have faded faster than Mike Gravel in 2008.
So the SEIU-backed May Day celebration — this year’s theme: ARIZONAZI — reflects on the president.
Oddly enough, on May Day, President Obama lectured Americans from the bully pulpit of a commencement speech with a warning not to speak out against the government: “When our government is spoken of as some menacing, threatening foreign entity, it ignores the fact that in our democracy, government is us.”
As Nancy Pelosi put it last summer, it is un-American to speak up at town-hall meetings.
So I expect President Obama to rebuke the SEIU and condemn the violence from the SEIU’s co-sponsored May Day marches.
From the Mercury News: “SANTA CRUZ – A large group of protesters demonstrating at a May Day rally for worker’s and immigrant rights downtown broke off into a riot vandalizing about a dozen businesses around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police said. Many in the group were carrying makeshift torches as they marched, breaking storefront windows and writing “anarchist graffiti” on buildings, according to Capt. Steve Clark. Many businesses sustained multiple broken windows including very large storefront windows at Urban Outfitters and The Rittenhouse building. Police believe at least 15 businesses suffered damage.”
From KION: “Because of the size and violent demeanor of the crowd, Santa Cruz Police officers called for Mutual-Aid backup from all law enforcement agencies in the County. Neighboring officers arrived quickly and began to coordinate with Santa Cruz Officers. This quick response and action was essential in preventing damage to other businesses.”
This is the most partisan, polarizing, politicizing figure to have ever been in the White House.

Thank goodness this happened in Santa Cruz, Kalifornia. Otherwise real businesses might have been damaged! Now the hippies gotta repair their coffee shops, courtesy of their fellow anarchist commie socialists-in-arms! sarc/

Yeah, this nut migrated from SoCal almost 30 years ago and never looked back.
I tried to get my ex to leave for years or at least think about it; she didn’t want to move away from her parents. But now that I’m single the idea of leaving is getting pretty attractive.
But it also feels like I’d be surrendering to these bastards. IDK, maybe it really IS too late for CA...1/2 of me wants to hang in there, the other 1/2 thinks the first 1/2 is nuts.
I was on assignment in CA for 3 1/2 years in 1996-1999, and lived south of San Jose in Morgan Hill. Yes, I have been to Santa Cruz. I did not mean to offend you.... I should have said fellow conservatives & patriots exempted from my remarks. One of my favorite restaurants was near Santa Cruz but I can't remember the name. You could take a trolley down a steep garden hill to the restaurant or walk down through garden paths.
Alot of us packed up over 20yrs ago and have lived up here on the Coast of Oregon. : )
Hey, at least you’ve seen a little of which you speak...more than I can say for a lot of FReepers quick to jump on the “Boycott and Bash California” bandwagon. Not to mention 27 years here has left me a little jaded. Most of the liberal lunacy here is concentrated in Santa Cruz proper and the University. The rest of the county isn’t that bad.
CA in general is going down the toilet but some us are clinging to the rim.

I attended a friends wedding in Bend a handful of years ago, but a bad hangover derailed our plans for a tour of the city the following day.

town California is pretty much the same as small
town Anywhere, USA. Constant carping does get a
lot tiring. California has always attracted
some pretty crazy types since the Gold Rush.
The way this California native sees it is that
our friends from other states ought to show us
a little love for taking in so many of their
wacked out rejects.
