Republican Senator Richard Burrs support has fallen below 50% for the first time since January in his bid for reelection in North Carolina.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Burr picking up 48% of the vote against North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall who earns 40% support. Only three percent (3%) would opt for some other candidate in this race, while nine percent (9%) are undecided.
Support for Marshall is up eight points from last month and is at its highest level seen so far in the race. This is Burrs lowest level of support measured in surveys conducted since January, when he held 47% support against Marshall.
However, Burr still picks up 50% against former State Senator Cal Cunningham, although thats also his lowest support measured in this match-up. Cunningham earns 37% of the vote this month, up six points from April and his highest support so far.

I wonder what Burr is doing wrong? He should be farther ahead against these second-tier opponents.
Burr isn’t doing anything wrong, he just isn’t doing anything. The Dems have been running for awhile now because they were contesting a primary. As a result their names have been out there. Hopefully we will start hearing more from Burr now.
He is #8 on the most conservative list in the Senate
“Burr isnt doing anything wrong, he just isnt doing anything.”
Yea, I agree. If the Republicans nationalize the election, Burr will win with ease. At this point people are so angry, they’re probably not even distinguishing between parties. “If the guy is in DC, then kick him out!” is probably a common thought in this case (and, unfortunately, with a lot of FReepers, or at least trolls pretending to be FReepers).
Exactly....All we’ve heard is Dem this, Dem that....Burr won his primary with 80% of the vote. Cant imagine that with the Gov Sleazy allegations, and our current Governor getting into some of the same problems, that voters are really going to want to give the Senatorial reigns to the Dem party.....But, we havent been able to get rid of my loser Rep Price....
My impression is that he did little to stop the Black Messiah’s socialization of health care, and so he has to go. This is the widespread conception of Republicans all across the country. They should have launched a full-scale attack against O, but incumbent Republicans were so busy gathering bribes, er, campaign contributions, that they lost sight of what they were sent to Washington to do. They’re full-time job now is raising bribes, so what do you expect?
Burr is no different. It’s the same thing that killed The Dutchess in the last election (that’s Libby Dole to you outsiders). “Give me the bribes and I’ll mouth platitudes,” doesn’t fulfill voter expectations this election. There is a ferociously negative attitude towards the Parliament of Whores in Washington out here in the real world.
/and thank you P.J.O’Rourk for the “PoW” title
“They’re” = “Their”
/hate it when other people make that mistake
Burr has been a bit soft. He also last time I checked hadn’t signed on to Health Care repeal. He’d better get with it. I wish he’d had a better primary challenge. We need to stop electing soft Republicans in the south. It is unforgivable.
He won’t lose.
But he’s not likely to win big.
Jesse Helms 9 point win in 1978 was actually the biggest GOP margin ever in an NC Senate race. Every race since the late 70’s has been within 10 points.

Burr is a completwe joke. He was totally in favor of the open border/amnesty bill. You may recall his actions. He passed on the vote till it failed then voted. His public scaam of the vote on the bridge to nowhere. Went on tv to pretend he was outraged but voted for it anyway. You may recall.
He endoresed McCain very early. He refused to defund ACORN. He is an empty suit.
He will probably get re elected due to the mood of the voters and not by his record. Still he should be further ahaead as a R this yr.
Burr is kind of a squish as far as his dealings with Democrats, but he does have one of the most conservative voting records in the Senate.
Mainly, all three of his primary opponents were jokes. Bur’’s campaign hasn’t even printed up signs or palm cards, much less gotten the big guns of a re-election campaign cranked up yet. He won with ~80% without even doing anything.
The Dems, on the other hand, had a very contested primary with six contenders, and have been running ads, throwing up signs, etc. etc. for two months.
Burr lost me when he kept recommending health insurance be required by law, and we all pay tax on health premiums. He doesn’t sound conservative to me.
He’s a conservative democrat.
Do you live in NC?
I do.
Do you know Burr?
I do.
Have you worked with Burr and his office?
I have.
Burr is a conservative Republican.
I think Cunningham would be the more effective opponent against Burr.
I know he must have done so because his radio ads said so.
