SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California's Democratic Party on Friday will hold one of its most lucrative fundraisers at a prestigious golf resort as the governor releases what is expected to be a grim state budget that will include eliminating health and social programs for the poor.

The two-day "Speaker's Cup" starts Friday at Pebble Beach, headlined by Assembly Speaker John Perez, D-Los Angeles.

Meanwhile Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will release his revised budget plan to address a deficit forecast at more than $20 billion.

...

Lobbyists and business executives have paid between $10,000 and $45,000 in the past for a weekend with state lawmakers at the Speaker's Cup, which is sponsored by AT&T.

Life is tough. The people suffer and the politicians rake in money at golf courses.

Perhaps they can turn Pebble Beach into a large tent city for the homeless that are soon to be kicked out of their Section 8 homes. Problem Solved.

I lived in CA for fifty years and I never understood why the rich, famous and powerful should ever want to increase the amount of support for the undeserving poor (yes, a pretty difficult distinction off the top). But there never seemed to be a lack of money for poverty pimps and it looks like the past decade of utter mismanagement and financial whoredom hasn’t dented their enthusiasm one bit.

Glad I left. Never going back. Sad situation and I pray for all good Americans to be delivered from the gold-lined prison that has become California. (cue ‘White Bird’)
