Four Hutaree members released from jail
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 19 May, 2010 | David Codrea

Kristopher T. Sickles (AP/Paul Sancya)

"Three of nine members of a Midwest militia accused of conspiring to overthrow the government were released from jail Tuesday," reports Ed White of the Associated Press.

And now today, a fourth member, Kristopher T. Sickles of Ohio has been released.

Read the initial story here and the follow-up here.

Then assess these developments in light of what we've discussed here at Gun Rights Examiner recently:

Court: Hutaree to stay jailed for now

Why would prosecutor 'misrepresent' conditions of Hutaree bond release?

Hutaree release blocked—for how long?

Does freeing of Hutaree on bond tell us anything about government's case?

That was what it was supposed to do and now the media isn’t interested.

If I had a UN flag I’d burn it too.

Going from their website they aren’t a group we should be championing. They are racist anti-semites. Of course we should stamp out government corruption and defend 2nd Amendment rights but being released on bond is not equivalent to innocence either. Remember even the other legit and honest militiaman up there stayed clear of them.

The judge’s 36 page opinion sure seems to suggest that the whole thing is crap, unless you agree that burning a UN flag is “sedition”.

Its not about championing them, its about right and wrong. Many of the things the feds are using in this case are things that FReepers do on a daily basis like “live fire training” which is fedspeak for shooting at paper targets. The great speech given by the leader of the bunch was prompted by the undercover agent who posed a rhetorical “what if” question. We have lots of threads like that right here at FR.

Racist anti-Semites and wannabe cop killers. Really hard to do our duty and stand up for the Constitution when they are the plaintiffs involved. (then again, the Government does not build cases to expand their power by going after the Shriners)

Expect this case to just “disappear”.

I do not have time to reply as I have to leave for work but it is far more than just burning a flag. Perhaps the charges are spurious but the listed charges go beyond just burning a flag.

If Rev. Wright were hauled off to jail on dubious charges, I'd demand that due process applies to him.

Loons have rights too, including the right to say ignorant and stupid things.

Yes they do, and the judge makes it clear than nearly all of them are crap.

They’ve served the administration’s “evil white guy” PR purposes. Time to let this fade away...

It certainly didn’t warrant a multi year investigation and massive pseudo military raid costing untold millions of dollars.

Neither did Waco. They could have grabbed that guy almost any day when he went shopping, or went to town.
