Faith Hill will pay tribute to Paul McCartney at a concert hosted by President Barack Obama at the White House on June 2. The event will recognize the former Beatle as this year's recipient of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the highest honor given for pop music.
Hill will join a star-studded lineup that includes Jack White, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Dave Grohl and the Jonas Brothers. Sir Paul is the third person to receive the Gershwin Award, which was created in 2007 and was previously given to Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon.
PBS will broadcast the special, titled In Performance at the White House Celebrating the Music of Paul McCartney: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize, on July 28 at 8 PM Eastern Time.
oh, gee....I’ll be too busy...got to clean my toilets at that time.
Lemme guess....Paul is Obama’s favorite Beatle.
OK he can have this Gala, go the Chicago for the Memorial Day weekend but he can not show up at ARLINGTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a jerk
Obama was the “fifth” Beatle.
I would have figured he'd be a John Lenin (Lennon) fan. ;-)
Sir Paul is a huge liberal.
What an unworthy waste of taxpayer’s money! What else does this tin pan alley president have in mind to destroy a great country? The adoration of the Beatles was the overt beginning of its deterioration! Of course he would honor that!
So is Faith Hill and her less than talented husband (though I have to give him credit for his business skills).
as are Faith and Tim unfortunately
a pox for a Mississippi gal
McGraw is a nice fella though...knew him in passing at t-ball games in our neighborhood
I invented the Beatles.
Al Gore
Barry should be working on the oil spill instead of partying with rock stars. Unbelievable.
Why is Paul McCartney getting a tribute for at the White House?
Who is paying for this boondoggle?
McCartney is a pleasant, committed lefty. Lennon was a flat out marxist. If I had to guess, Obama like Paul but he has "Imagine" playing on his iPod round the clock. "No countries, no religion, no possessions, sharing all the world, yeah!"
PARTY ON....

Paul McCartney Wants to Serenade Michelle Obama
Sunday November 09, 2008 09:00 AM EST
Sir Paul McCartney has made the President-elect an offer too good to pass up: he wants to sing for Michelle Obama.
“I think sincerely he is the man for the job. I think it is a legendary occasion and I wish him the very best,” McCartney told Britain’s Sky News backstage at the MTV Europe Music Awards Thursday night.
“I hope to get the opportunity to sing ... to his wife. I have a little song ready for him,” the former Beatle said. Asked what tune he has in mind, McCartney purred the start to one of the most famous songs of the ‘60s: “Michelle.”
“I was so ‘fingers crossed’ he would win it,” said McCartney. “I’m so chuffed.”

Paul McCartney to Receive Gershwin Prize From President Obama
Paul McCartney is set to be honored by President Barack Obama in a June 2 ceremony at the White House, where the legendary rocker will be given the Gershwin Prize, a lifetime achievement award for contributions to pop music. The likes of Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Jack White and Dave Grohl will all pay tribute to Macca in an event that will be hosted by the President and First Lady Michelle Obama.
Other performers slated for the celebration include Corinne Bailey Rae, Herbie Hancock, Faith Hill, Emmylou Harris and comedian Jerry Seinfeld. According to the Guardian, McCartney was selected by a panel of judges including Jimmy Webb, Paul Simon and ASCAP President Paul Williams.
The former Beatle is just the third musician after Simon and Wonder to receive the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song since the honor, which is designed to acknowledge “the profound and positive effect of popular music on the world’s culuture,” began in 2007. A PBS special of the event will air on July 28.
Maybe they could get Justin Timberlake to present the award to him. That way the overrated-boy-band-hack circle will be complete.
What oil spill?!~ /s
