Being ready for a major disaster is no longer the realm solely of Montana militiamen hidden in the mountains.
The shaky economy and recent catastrophes are fueling a growing movement of soft-core survivalists, who could just be your next-door neighbors.
If there were ever a disaster of any type in Frederick, Colo., the Douglas home is probably where you'd want to be.
"From the outside looking in, nobody could really know," said Ron Douglas.
Ron and Heather Douglas and their six children are new members of a growing online network getting ready for the worst, the Colorado Preppers Network.
Is it paranoia?
"We don't think so. We think we're very normal," said Ron.

The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. Proverbs 27:12
If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8

I bet Noah had more than just a few desperate and hysterical people he had to push off with poles.

That point is made in my manual:
The Lord holds us accountable for our actions Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take [any] person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand. Ezekiel 33:4
The Lord has little mercy for those who heed not his word. An example is of this is when the Lord himself shut the door to the ark behind Noah when the floods came.
A male and a female of every animal went in as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD closed the door behind them. Genesis 7:16

Thinking the same thing. They shouldn’t have advertised they are ‘ready’. Secondly, I see no mention made of firearms and ammunition - second mistake, a big one.

Why the heck do people talk with reporters? Keep your mouth shut if you’re really concerned about survival.

I put up 8 pounds of NFDM (non-fat dry milk) this week. (with oxygen absorbers).
Also about ten pounds of freeze dried cheese ravioli.

I think a lot of people don't prepare because it seems like a daunting task, but they just need to do a little at a time.
Something is always better than nothing, and it doesn't have to be "buried", just don't keep it on your front porch.
And don't invite the media in.

Where’d you find o2 absorbers and freeze-dried cheese ravioli?

For O2 absorbers, I have been using the Hot Hands thingies. They work by exactly the same principle, Absorbing Oxygen basically by using fine iron filings to “rust”.
Winco foods has the Cheese ravioli in their bulk-foods section. I plan on getting a bunch of dried fruits as well, (they have dried strawberries and a whole slew of other stuff).
What I have been doing is this:
Put food into a one gallon plastic Rubbermaid container (the screw on lid type)
Put a coffee filter in (assuming you left enough room)
Add the O2 absorber
Watch the container. As the absorber does its job, it will create partial vacuum. More than enough to collapse the container UNLESS you open it a few hours after starting. You should hear a hiss when it sucks in a bit of air. Do this process about 3 times, by then there is basically no O2 left, all thats in there will be nitrogen and a bit of CO2 and Argon or whatever...
