Apart from the problem of Mexican illegal aliens, there is a simple, inexpensive and effective means of quickly closing the border to non-Mexican aliens—offer to pay Mexicans a bounty on non-Mexicans.
Just South of the border, a little bit of US dollars goes a long way. And there are lots of Mexicans who would be more than happy to inform on non-Mexicans. It would work something like this:
A Mexican sees a non-Mexican heading for the border. So he makes a phone call to the US. They take down the information he gives them, then they give him a five digit number.
After a time, he calls them back, and gives them their number back. If, and only if, they have successfully detained the non-Mexican, does the informant get paid. In cash.
It does not have to be a great sum. Say $20-50 a head for a typical non-Mexican. But if it is an interesting one, they can pay a bonus. And if he is a serious terrorist on the list, he might be worth a thousand dollars, which is a big fortune down there.
Of course this does nothing against illegal Mexican aliens. That needs different solutions. But once the word got out, the border would be sealed like a drum to non-Mexican illegals.
Including terrorists.
