Reid supporters go after Sharron Angle over fluoridation; what you can do
self (link to first article mentioned) ^ | 6/9/10 | self

One of the "angles" of attack on Sharron Angle is illustrated in the post "FLASHBACK: GOPer Angle Spoke Out Against Fluoride In Water Supply" (link).

Most people have been trained to regard concerns about such issues as crazy talk, when in fact the original program of fluoridation was sold deceptively and using non-rigorous studies and there may be legitimate concerns about its negative health impacts.

If you're an Angle supporter, this is a good chance to help discredit her opponents. If you aren't an Angle supporter, it's still a good chance to discredit some of the bad guys.

What I need you to do is to visit blogs and the like that are discussing this issue and leave comments like the second paragraph above, together with the links below. Encourage people to think for themselves and suggest further research. And, work to discredit those who've discussed this issue without acknowledging that there might be downsides to fluoridation. For an example of that, see my post about Justin Elliott of TPM (the author of the link above).

Important note: simply discussing this here will have little impact. You need to go out into the wider internet and find those who are trying to discredit Angle over this issue. Then, turn it around on them.

Note also that you can do that on Twitter; use search.twitter.com to find those who are discussing this issue.

Almost all water districts here on long island have ended flouridation. They cite possible medical complications. It turns out that General Jack D Ripper was on the right track. So I’d advise Engle to remind her critics that the evidence against fluoridation is on her side.

One-word answer to critics: toothpaste.

Yes. Read the warning labels on the toothpaste.

I doubt anything Reid or his flying monkeys try will make up for Nevada unemployment rates or his own unpopularity.

No matter the side the evidence is on, I will bet that over 50% of Nevada residents are on private wells. We don’t use floride at all in those systems.

Have fun with all those kids with rotted teeth...

Sorry I’ve lived where its floridated and where its not.. Where its not, you have children with rotted out baby teeth...

Brusing and annual floridation treatments are laughable when sold as equavalent protection with less risk.

Floride is naturally occurring and found in all water, only variable is levels.. just because you are an private well doesn’t mean you aren’t getting as much or perhaps even more floride than is added to municiple systems.

If Reid can pin her as an anti-floridation nut, that will eat into any advantage she has now. Most people regard anti-floridation talk in the same realm as Flying Saucers and Bigfoot - maybe even less believable.

Or magnesium chloride and hydrogen peroxide with much better results, and it's not at all toxic. The peroxide even replaces chlorine with better pathogen killing results.

Sorry, but there has only been one peer reviewed study in all the years that floridation has been done that showed any statistical link between floride and any health problems, and when that group tried the same analysis in a different location they could not replicate those initial findings, so they did find what appeared to be a rare cancer risk with the water in the original study location, but as the second attempt at it showed, that link had nothing to do with Floride.

Floridation in drinking water as a major public health risk is garbage sciense, its same level of BS as Global Warming.

Floridation is not done for PATHOGEN killing... its done to fight tooth decay. You chlorinate water for pathogens, that has nothing to do with why Floride is added to water.

I wasn't quite as clear as I intended in the post. The combination of magnesium chloride and peroxide are better than fluoride treatments for fighting tooth decay. The bonus is the peroxide would kill the pathogens.

I never said it was. All I said was that magnesium chloride and peroxide would be better. And to boot, it'd be much cheaper.

One-word answer to critics: toothpaste.

Two point response:

1) You don't swallow gallons toothpaste every week, do you?

2) Sodium fluoride and calcium fluoride are very, *very* different substances. Sodium fluoride is the poison that gets dumped into municipal water supplies. Calcium fluoride is what helps teeth and bones form properly. Huge difference.
