Measuring the Impact of a Nod From Palin
The Wall Street Journal ^ | June 10, 2010 | Susan Davis

Posted on 06/09/2010 9:51:12 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Sarah Palin's effort to shape the 2010 political landscape got a boost Tuesday when three candidates she supported prevailed in their contested primaries.

But the former Alaska governor's impact on races remains a matter for debate.

"I think any credit given to me is way overblown because no one individual can tip it one way or another for a candidate," Ms. Palin told Fox News on Wednesday, when asked if her nod helped tip the scales in favor of women on the ballot Tuesday, Carly Fiorina in California and Nikki Haley in South Carolina. She also endorsed Terry Branstad, who won Tuesday's GOP gubernatorial primary in Iowa.

Strategists say the support of Ms. Palin, a favorite of the grassroots conservative tea party movement, brings media attention to local races and can help candidates distinguish themselves from the Republican pack.

Ms. Palin's support can also translate into money. She has weighed in on roughly two dozen House races this election season. A House Republican political operative estimated that candidates in House races could see an immediate $10,000 to $25,000 in donations after an endorsement by Ms. Palin.

But others, including some Republican strategists, say her influence is less substantial.

"The campaigns that won ran better races than their opponents. It's that simple," said Kevin Madden, a Republican strategist and former campaign aide to Mitt Romney, a likely Palin rival if she chooses to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.(continued)

Funny. Thanks to Sarah, Susana Martinez pulled it off here in New Mexico. Of course Romney came in a day late and a dollar short.

Methinks Mitt is feeling very bad today.

Sarah P sure has gotten a lot of notice from what her endorsements have done, but of course, she's not running, she's just making money, right?

:-)

Bottomline is that Palin is on the same wavelength as most of middle & conservative America.

The fact that she is so down to earth, has EXPERIENCE, and most importantly a record of accomplishment seals the deal for most Americans.

Palin is learning to pick the ponies. Plus she’s the new model feminist.

the difference between Palin and Mitt for all to see. Palin acts humble not taking credit when she is do. Showing her servant’s heart and happy the message is winning.

Mitt and his buttboys try to tear down Palin and could care less about the message and only look out for themselves.

a Servant for a power mad king wannbe.

Palin vs Mitt it doesn't get any clearer.

even NPR this afternoon had a piece on this acknowledging that Sarah's nominations were disproportionately effective and she only lost a few

and that she endorsed more through twitter and facebook rather than conferences

*in case u are wondering....the place I walk is very hilly and in the hollows NPR 90.3 is the only news-talk I can get and yes like most folks I would like to slap Terry Gross and Linda Wertheimer too

I agree totally but now the Palin-haters will descend on the thread so there is no point reading further...:o)

Okay I have been around FR for a while I have a question for you.... Have you ever read a quote from a politician like this...?

“”I think any credit given to me is way overblown because no one individual can tip it one way or another for a candidate,” Ms. Palin told Fox News on Wednesday, when asked if her nod helped tip the scales in favor of women ......”

Have you ever heard a pol say they werent responsible for someone elses success? As God as my witness I have never seen that kind of humility of the 100,000s post I have read.

These people conveniently forget Martinez in their “analysis”.

Martinez was running neck and neck with Weh mid-May, when endorsed by Palin, with most believing it would be a close primary, eg see here ...http://www.nmpolitics.net/index/2010/05/weh-and-martinez-are-neck-and-neck-poll-finds/

She pulled away after the endorsement, and won the primary 51-28!

Of course these were local factors! And the timing was coincidental too! /sarc

I can think of one common factor though ... and I’m sure future GOP candidates, politicians that often spend millions and millions of $s and months and months of time trying to woo a few % of voters will appreciate the seemingly magical power of a Palin endorsement in a primary, and will try to win that support going into 2012, whatever the so-called political pundits write.

You speak the plain and simple truth, my friend, and it's a truth that drives the left (and some on the right) absolutely insane.

It's become something of a test of character for me to see where a person stands on Sarah Palin. I've found over the last two years or so, that a person's stance on Sarah is unerringly in line with what sort of personality they are.

It's my observation at this point that the majority of the center-right admires and trusts Sarah Palin enough to want her to take the helm as president. I couldn't agree more.

Sarah does some inexplicable, oddball things as well. Why is she so loyal to John McCain who couldn’t fight his way out of a paper bag? Is she keeping a deal she promised him when he nominated her for the vice presidential candidate, and now making the best out of this turkey? Or does she really see something in McCain?

I think Democrat candidates can add, even if Obama can't. They're staying far away from his coat tails these days. He's positively radioactive to their campaigns.

And yes, I think of her as the "Prez", too. Won't be long until she really is.
