Hayworth had a legit shot to beat McCain - especially if the politicians with national followings lined up behind him.

I really don't have a dog in that race. I think Jd would be a somewhat better choice but his record on spending gives me pause. A McCain win would give Palin a powerful ally in the Senate if she wins the WH and wants to advance her agenda.

IMO no matter which person wins in AZ conservatives win. McCain was forced to move right and in that light primary elections are a good thing.
