Warrant Officer Class Two Paul Robert BOSWELL, Qld
For distinguished leadership in action while the Troop Sergeant Major with the Royal Australian Artillery Troop, Afghanistan, Rotation Two and attached to the 29th Commando Regiment (United Kingdom).

Warrant Officer Boswell demonstrated exceptional leadership following the ignition of an improvised explosive device which injured three British soldiers, two of whom very seriously, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He immediately took command of the dangerous situation and by his excellent judgement and decisive actions, contributed significantly to saving the lives of the injured soldiers. He also provided excellent support to the others involved. His professionalism, leadership and poise were of the highest order and in keeping with the finest traditions of the Australian Army.

Lieutenant Ashley David JUDD NSW

For distinguished performance of duty in warlike operations and in action while commanding 2 Platoon, Combat Team Tusk, 7th Battalion Battle Group (Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force 1) in the Chora Valley, Afghanistan on 29 December 2008.

While in contact and under sustained enemy fire and with multiple enemy fire teams rapidly closing on his platoon, Lieutenant Judd coordinated direct fire support and tactically manoeuvred his platoon effectively to suppress the enemy and evacuate a wounded platoon member. Lieutenant Judd’s courage, leadership and calm manner were an inspiration to all of his soldiers and instrumental to his platoon regaining the initiative.

For outstanding achievement as the Joint Education, Training and Warfare Command and Australian Defence Force Academy Legal Officer.

Lieutenant Commander Cameron is a truly exceptional officer who consistently displays professional excellence as a Legal Officer, and demonstrates remarkable dedication and commitment in mentoring and developing midshipmen and officer cadets at the Australian Defence Force Academy. His sustained efforts as a legal officer, leader and mentor have set a consummate professional example to subordinates, peers and superiors, and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Defence Force.

Captain Luke CHARLES-JONES OAM RAN, ACT
For outstanding achievement as Director of Maritime Operations, Navy Strategic Command.

Captain Charles-Jones is an exceptional officer who demonstrated inspiring leadership, outstanding organisational ability and a clear focus on achieving superior results in very demanding circumstances. His achievements are of the highest order and bring great credit upon himself and the Royal Australian Navy.

Warrant Officer Martin Grant HOLZBERGER, WA
For outstanding achievement as the Ship’s Warrant Officer, HMAS Warramunga.

Warrant Officer Holzberger’s performance as the Ship’s Warrant Officer aboard HMAS Warramunga was outstanding. His professionalism, dedication and tireless devotion to duty were excellent and established him as a role model for the ship’s company. His superior leadership and tireless work ethic were instrumental in the successes achieved by the ship’s company in a demanding operational period.

Commander Stephen Mark O’HEARN RAN, ACT
For outstanding achievement as the Project Manager for the Collins Class Submarines Replacement Combat System.

Commander O’Hearn has made a major contribution to the enhancement of the Collins Class submarine capability by his leadership in managing the Australian participation in the Joint Australian/United States development of the Tactical Combat Control system, and by his subsequent management of the integration of the Tactical Combat Control system with Australian developed systems. His outstanding work resulted in the timely granting by the Chief of Navy of the Initial Operational Release for the Replacement Combat System in HMA Submarines Waller and Farncomb.

Warrant Officer Andrew Wilfred ROACH, NSW
For outstanding achievement in the field of aviation maintenance in the Royal Australian Navy.

Warrant Officer Roach is an exceptional senior sailor who sets a motivational example, and has had a positive influence over the entire Fleet Air Arm community. He has led the efforts to re-establish trust and confidence in the Royal Australian Navy’s aviation technical workforce following the 2005 Sea King helicopter tragedy on Nias Island. Warrant Officer Roach’s achievements have defined the way aviation technicians of the Royal Australian Navy are trained, qualified and employed, and he has directly contributed to a safer and more efficient aviation maintenance environment.

Lieutenant Commander William Lemesurier WATERS RAN, NSW
For outstanding achievement in the development, planning and conduct of operations at the United States Navy’s Surface Warfare Development Group, as Operations Coordinator at Fleet Headquarters and as Executive Officer HMAS Sydney.

Lieutenant Commander Waters is an exceptional officer whose dedication, commitment and professionalism have enabled him to produce outstanding results for the Royal Australian Navy in the fields of tactical development, current operations, ship organisation and leadership. In a time of severe resource constraints Lieutenant Commander Waters has consistently applied himself in a variety of different postings to improve the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the Fleet and to reduce the watch-keeping burden on sailors across the Royal Australian Navy.

Lieutenant Colonel Kathryn Jane CAMPBELL, NSW
For outstanding achievement as the Commanding Officer of the Sydney University Regiment.

Lieutenant Colonel Campbell demonstrated significant professional excellence in successfully guiding Sydney University Regiment through a period of considerable organisational change while still maintaining an excellent standard of governance. Her efforts have significantly improved the quality of training provided to Australian Army Reserve officers and have been in accordance with the highest ideals and standards of the Australian Army and the Australian Defence Force.

Lieutenant Colonel Andrew COHN, ACT
For outstanding achievement in the area of psychological resilience training, research and evaluation, and progression of the Australian Defence Force Mental Health Strategy.

Lieutenant Colonel Cohn is an exceptional officer who has displayed extraordinary dedication to duty, the highest level of professionalism and outstanding leadership within the Directorate of Mental Health. He has developed a resilience training program which is recognised around the world as best practice. His tireless work in implementing the reforms of the review into mental health services will ensure that the stigmas and barriers around mental health care are being removed within the Australian Defence Force.

Lieutenant Colonel Steven John FRANKEL, ACT
For outstanding achievement as Staff Officer Grade One Communications and Information Systems and Electronic Warfare Development, Army Headquarters.

Lieutenant Colonel Frankel has consistently demonstrated outstanding technical skills, judgment, leadership and dedication to duty in the area of networking capability development, refining digitisation concepts and ensuring that the Australian Army’s related requirements are met in future capabilities. He has shown great personal initiative in identifying projects that required further work to develop comprehensive networking to support Australian Army capability needs. His substantial achievements have been a result of his determined efforts to ensure that the Australian Army is prepared for the networked land force of the future and operations in the ‘information age’. Lieutenant Colonel Frankel’s efforts have brought credit upon himself, Army Headquarters and the Australian Army.

For outstanding achievement as the Director-General Infrastructure Asset Development.

Brigadier Grice has consistently demonstrated outstanding professional skills, judgement, leadership and dedication to duty in the area of facilities and infrastructure project development and delivery. His substantial achievements have been a result of his exceptional leadership qualities and his proven ability to achieve key outcomes in the development and delivery of the major capital facilities program. Brigadier Grice's efforts have brought credit upon himself and the Department of Defence.

Lieutenant Colonel Jason James HEDGES, ACT
For outstanding achievement as the Chief of Staff to Career Management - Army in 2009.

Lieutenant Colonel Hedges displayed exemplary initiative, energy and dedication to duty in his appointment as the Chief of Staff, Career Management - Army. Lieutenant Colonel Hedges undertook a number of demanding project management roles in the organisation to influence Career Management - Army’s support of Adaptive Army and strategic reform directly. His leadership and consensus-based project management approach led to the successful development of websites, databases, and mentoring and networking packages that will have a lasting strategic impact on the Australian Army. His performance has been well above that normally expected of his rank and experience and has been in keeping with the highest traditions of the Australian Army.

Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Nicholas KENNY, NSW
For outstanding achievement as the Commanding Officer of the 1st Field Regiment.

Lieutenant Colonel Kenny has consistently demonstrated the highest level of leadership, professionalism, and personal determination during his current posting. As the Commanding Officer of the 1st Field Regiment he has led an undermanned unit to great success on exercise, deploying its members on operational service and in corporate governance while in barracks.

Colonel Craig Andrew SCHRAMM, ACT
For outstanding achievement as the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Health Support Battalion and Senior Health Officer, South Queensland.

An exceptional officer displaying inspirational professional excellence as the Commanding Officer 2nd Health Support Battalion and Senior Health Officer, South Queensland, Colonel (then Lieutenant Colonel) Schramm was responsible for the provision of high readiness Level 3 combat health support for the Australian Army, and he ensured a very high standard of Garrison Health Support across southern Queensland. In doing so, he demonstrated outstanding achievement in the management of a complex and extensive workload.

Brigadier William Timothy SOWRY, ACT
For outstanding devotion to duty in a non-warlike situation as Commander International Stabilisation Force in East Timor.

As Commander International Stabilisation Force, Brigadier Sowry established credibility, respect and honourable standing within East Timor. His enthusiasm and personal drive resulted in a significant rise in the quantity, quality and direction of engagement with key leaders in the East Timor security agencies and within the wider government. His efforts have contributed extensively to the security of the nation and resulted in a significant enhancement to the reputation and standing of the Australian Defence Force within East Timor.

Royal Australian Air Force

Sergeant Kevin Roy ALDRIDGE, NT
For outstanding achievement as the Senior Non–Commissioned Officer-in-Charge of the Fuel Quality Control Centre at Combat Support Unit Pearce.

Sergeant Aldridge is a distinguished airman who consistently demonstrates outstanding leadership, exceptional technical expertise, drive and dedication. He has displayed exemplary foresight and initiative in developing a Work Clearance System and has greatly contributed to the development of the fuel facility as part of the Royal Australian Air Force Base Pearce Redevelopment Project. He has brought great credit upon himself, Combat Support Unit Pearce and the Royal Australian Air Force.

Flight Lieutenant Joleen Kim DARBY, NT
For outstanding achievement in the application of exceptional skills as the medical officer in HMAS Childers on Thursday, 16 April 2009.

Flight Lieutenant Darby’s actions were fundamental to the successful treatment of 44 injured personnel, including the survival of 27 critical and very seriously injured, following an explosion on a suspected irregular entry vessel near Ashmore Reef. Her compassion, professionalism, outstanding leadership and exceptional skills in coordinating triage, administering medical treatment, advising others how to address medical concerns, and monitoring the casualties for 12 hours in the most basic conditions ensured their pain and suffering were minimised. The injured personnel were delivered to expert medical care in the best possible condition, and they survived their trauma.

Squadron Leader John Martin HALY, Qld
For outstanding achievement as an Exchange Officer and Detachment Commander, Australian Super Hornet Transition Team.

Squadron Leader Haly is an outstanding officer whose inspirational leadership, professionalism and dedication to duty as an exchange officer and Air Combat Group Detachment Commander at the United States Naval Air Station Lemoore have resulted in the successful training of the Royal Australian Air Force’s initial cadre of Super Hornet aircrew and maintenance personnel. Through his superior planning, attention to detail and improved training syllabus, he has greatly contributed to the successful rapid acquisition and introduction to service of the Super Hornet aircraft.

Sergeant Michael Johnathon HORNER, SA
For outstanding achievement as an Instructor at Number 292 Squadron and as the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Number 11 Squadron flightline operations.

Sergeant Horner has provided outstanding service to Number 92 Wing’s maintenance organisation, continually improving processes and developing his subordinates. As an Instructor, he designed, developed and delivered training syllabus and support facilities for key mission equipment. While deployed in support of Border Protection objectives in northern Australia, Sergeant Horner rapidly established maintenance capabilities for demanding high operational tempo and enhanced safety awareness.

Group Captain Mark Kenneth SCOUGALL, ACT
For outstanding achievement as the Commanding Officer of the C-17 Logistics Management Unit.

Group Captain Scougall was the inaugural Commanding Officer of the C-17 Logistics Management Unit. He has led the unit to develop C-17 aircraft sustainment from the initial rapid acquisition of the aircraft to a reliable and effective capability where the logistics support is routinely meeting mature targets, enabling the aircraft to be deployed operationally, both in Australia and overseas. He has led a multinational team to establish the support arrangements, including the creation of the necessary inter-governmental agreements, contracts, business processes, personnel and data which underpin safe and effective C-17 aircraft operations.

Corporal Andrew Garry TURNBULL, NSW
For outstanding achievement as the Simulator Operator Supervisor at Surveillance and Control Training Unit.

Corporal Turnbull is an exceptional airman who has displayed outstanding leadership, commitment and professional mastery in air combat simulation that have improved the quality of training at Surveillance and Control Training Unit significantly. Corporal Turnbull’s ability and initiatives have set the benchmark for simulator operators throughout Number 41 Wing. He personifies the highest of professional standards and brings great credit upon himself and the Royal Australian Air Force.

Through application of outstanding professional knowledge, initiative and exceptional commitment and dedication to his duties, Lieutenant Commander Doncaster’s considerable efforts have resulted in achievement of highly successful international engagement outcomes for the Royal Australian Navy. His personal influence and energy have enhanced the Royal Australian Navy’s reputation and earned the respect of various Defence agencies and senior foreign attachés, and have been a key factor in progressing the Royal Australian Navy’s established and emerging international engagement objectives and commitments.

His exceptional leadership and total commitment to the vital mission of training Marine Technicians have directly led to the achievement of the Plan TRAIN objectives, thus enhancing the Royal Australian Navy’s capability. Petty Officer Emma Dawn PROCOPIS, NSW
For meritorious achievement as the Communications Centre Manager at HMAS Waterhen.

Petty Officer Procopis’ performance as HMAS Waterhen Communications Centre Manager in direct support of the Her Majesty’s Australian Fleet units was outstanding. Her dedication and willingness in difficult circumstances ensured the maintenance of Fleet operational capability. She met all her challenges with fortitude, grace and finesse, displaying excellent personal and professional skills while keeping a superb sense of humour. Petty Officer Procopis’ performance is in the finest traditions of the Royal Australian Navy.

Warrant Officer Broadbent has exhibited outstanding service as the Operations Warrant Officer of Headquarters 1st Division. His outstanding planning skills, tireless and exemplary commitment to preparedness, initiative, and strong leadership ensured a high level of operational and logistic deployment readiness within Headquarters 1st Division. His ongoing efforts to reconfigure the Headquarters’ layout have made an enormous contribution to operational capability. His professionalism, leadership, personal drive, enthusiasm and dedication to duty have brought credit to himself and the Australian Army.

For meritorious devotion to duty as the Warrant Officer Personnel at Headquarters South Queensland Australian Army Cadets Brigade in support of youth development.

Warrant Officer Churchill has successfully developed a wide range of administrative processes and procedures that have enabled South Queensland Australian Army Cadets Brigade to meet its significant corporate governance responsibilities without any disruption to, or dilution of, the implementation of a high quality youth development program. She has also enhanced the public image and reputation of the cadet organisation. Through her personal dedication and commitment she has brought great credit on herself, her Corps and the Australian Army.

Corporal Meagan Jane HOLMES, Qld
For meritorious devotion to duty as the unit pay representative of the 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment.

Corporal Holmes is a highly motivated and extremely capable junior leader who has performed exceptionally well as the unit pay representative of the 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment. She has demonstrated excellent initiative to enhance unit pay processes, resolve existing issues and improve the technical skills of pay personnel. Her proactive approach and attention to detail have ensured a highly successful transition to the Graded Other Ranks Pay Scale. Corporal Holmes’ efforts are of the highest order and in keeping with the finest traditions of the Australian Army.

Warrant Officer Class One Lesley Anne HUNT, NSW
For outstanding achievement as the Warrant Officer Administration for the Active and Standby Staff Group.

Warrant Officer Hunt’s outstanding and dedicated management of the financial resources of the Active and Standby Staff Group has proven to be a key factor in the effectiveness of the unit. Her depth of knowledge combined with a systematic, effective, and innovative approach to problem solving has consistently produced a very high level of administrative support for all members of the unit. Further, her tireless efforts have been a key factor in the high rate of retention of soldiers and officers in the unit.

Corporal Christopher JOHANSSON, NT
For meritorious achievement in a non-warlike situation as the Acting Regimental Quartermaster with Joint Task Force 631 in East Timor in 2008.

Corporal Johansson, as the Acting Regimental Quartermaster Joint Task Force 631 in East Timor, proved to be capable well beyond expectations for his rank and experience. He worked tirelessly and on his own initiative to improve the accounting systems of the task force significantly, and provided an excellent model for other operations to follow.

Warrant Officer Class One Michael Walter KING, Tas
For meritorious devotion to duty as the Quartermaster of the 12th/40th Battalion, The Royal Tasmania Regiment.

Warrant Officer King has displayed outstanding enterprise, professional excellence and superior interpersonal skills as the Quartermaster of the 12th/40th Battalion, The Royal Tasmania Regiment. His dedication and personal application to his tasks have been exemplary and in accordance with the highest ideals and standards of the Australian Army and the Australian Defence Force.

Major Jodie Karla LORDING, NSW
For meritorious achievement as the Second-in-Command and Officer Commanding the 8th Brigade Operational Support Company in 2008 and 2009.

Major Lording displayed extraordinary leadership, technical expertise and capacity for work in the provision of complex administrative and logistics support to multiple dependent units within the 8th Brigade. She performed exceptionally well in a role above her rank and experience and was personally responsible for the successful implementation of a range of initiatives that improved the administrative and logistic processes within the Brigade significantly.

Sergeant Lachlan McMAHON, Qld
For meritorious devotion to duty as the Telecommunication System Supervisor, Telecommunication System Manager and Telecommunication System Engineer of the 1st Signal Regiment.

Sergeant McMahon is an excellent soldier who displays consistent excellence, inspirational leadership, initiative, and outstanding dedication in a range of appointments including Troop Sergeant of 665 Troop, the Manager of Telecommunications for the 101st Signal Squadron and, more recently, as the Troop Sergeant of the High Readiness Combat Signal Troop. Sergeant McMahon’s management, organisation and training directly improved the deployable Communications and Information Systems capability of the 1st Signals Regiment.

Major Brett Adam NELSON, Vic
For meritorious achievement as the Officer-in-Charge of the Specialist Recruiting Team - Engineering, Defence Force Recruiting, Victoria.

Major Nelson is an exceptional officer who, as the Officer-in-Charge of the Specialist Recruiting Team – Engineering, has been responsible for significantly enhancing the standing of the Australian Defence Force within the civilian engineering community. His extraordinary and accomplished networking ability, unrelenting dedication to duty and superior organisational skills have directly resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of applications made by engineering candidates to join the Australian Defence Force.

Major Justin Stafford OLDE, NSW
For meritorious achievement as a Trial Manager at the Australian Defence Test and Evaluation Office, Capability Development Group, particularly as the Trial Director for the Project Land 121 Medium/Heavy Vehicle Comparative Evaluation Trial.

Major Olde has been pivotal in designing, orchestrating and managing Defence Trial 871, the Project Land 121 Medium/Heavy Comparative Evaluation Trial. His outstanding management, coordination and execution of Defence Trial 871 have been exemplary and will directly lead to the procurement of the Australian Defence Forces’ future medium/heavy vehicle fleet. Major Olde’s exceptional standards of professionalism, organisation, drive and commitment are an inspiration to his peers and subordinates and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Australian Army.

Major Mark Donald RIDDLE, Vic
For meritorious achievement in the development of a data management system for the Australian Army’s Doctrine Wing.

An exceptionally skilled and dedicated officer whose performance is exemplary in all regards, Major Riddle developed a data management system for Doctrine Wing, Land Warfare Development Centre, that revolutionised the management of all aspects of Australian Army doctrine. This system, designed to manage highly complex and diverse data from geographically dispersed outposts across Australia, was developed entirely on Major Riddle’s own initiative and largely in his own time.

Sergeant Phillip Robert SCANLAN, Qld
For meritorious achievement as a Battery Quartermaster Sergeant, 16th Air Defence Regiment and Company Quartermaster Sergeant, Timor Leste Battle Group Five.

Sergeant Scanlan has displayed exceptional professionalism and outstanding dedication to duty while effectively performing the role of a Warrant Officer Class Two in three consecutive appointments, both in barracks and on operations. His accomplishments and outstanding service over a sustained period of time have brought great credit upon his unit, Corps and the Australian Army and are the actions of an exceptional soldier.

For meritorious achievement as the Force Protection Electronic Counter Measures Warrant Officer Instructor at the Defence Force School of Signals.

Warrant Officer Vickers has displayed steadfast determination and made a profound contribution to the training of Force Protection Electronic Counter Measures to Australian Defence Force personnel. His accomplishments, selfless devotion to duty, technical expertise and ability have undoubtedly contributed to the safety of personnel deployed overseas, and clearly identify him as a respected and extremely professional soldier.

For meritorious achievement as Assistant Staff Officer - Network Engineer, Defence Network Support Agency.

Flight Sergeant Clarke has consistently provided outstanding service in direct support of the technical integrity of Defence communications through his engineering and technical expertise. He has demonstrated exceptional motivation, outstanding management skills and professionalism amid a high operational tempo within the Defence Network Support Agency. For meritorious achievement as Staff Officer, Australian Super Hornet Transition Team.

Squadron Leader Cornell is an exceptional officer whose outstanding initiative and organisational and planning skills during an extremely compressed timeframe have been instrumental to the successful acquisition, delivery and operational test and evaluation of the Super Hornet aircraft to allow retirement of the F-111 aircraft on its planned withdrawal from service. His efforts have directly influenced the Royal Australian Air Force’s ability to project and sustain air combat capability.

For meritorious achievement as the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Ground Support Equipment section at Number 75 Squadron.

Sergeant Graham has consistently demonstrated outstanding service in the performance of his duties at Number 75 Squadron. His exceptional leadership, dedication to task and initiative have directly enhanced the operational effectiveness of Number 75 Squadron. His tireless efforts and personal contribution to personnel and maintenance initiatives ensured that Number 75 Squadron achieved its operational objectives.

Sergeant Angela Renee MAHER, Qld
For meritorious achievement as the Training Developer - Electronic Intelligence at the Defence Force School of Signals Electronic Warfare Wing.

Sergeant Maher has consistently displayed professional excellence, excellent leadership and outstanding dedication to duty in the design and development of the Electronic Intelligence Analysis Course. She has produced a course that provides the Royal Australian Air Force with training that enables Signals Operators to provide essential electronic intelligence analysis support to the Royal Australian Air Force’s current and future operations.

Never having gotten closer to "bravery" during my illustrious Army career than eating Army chow or closer to "exceptional service" than having avoided running afoul of the UCMJ I'm particularly humbled to hear of those who've earned these labels.

It's very fortunate,indeed,that so many servicemen/women of Western democracies earn medals and commendations from Kings/Queens,Presidents and Prime Ministers

Australian state or provisional governments are much stronger than the federal government. A good example are roads. Driving from Queensland to New South Wales the road is great. But you exit at the south of Queensland, drive a local road, then get on the road maintained by NSW. Call it freeways with mandatory exit ramps.
