DILLER: Planned Parenthood's missing millions

New GAO report reveals disturbing financial discrepancies

A new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) on federal tax money funneled into Planned Parenthood and similar organizations raises more questions than it answers about the nation's largest abortion chain.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America's (PPFA) audits show the organization spent just $657.1 million between 2002 and 2008 from federal government grants and programs, but the abortion behemoth's own annual reports show that it took in $2.3 billion from government grants and programs during the same time period.

That's not pocket change. Why the discrepancy?

The report (the first of its kind since 2002) was released in response to a request from 31 U.S. senators and representatives and in an atmosphere increasingly hostile to abortion. Not surprisingly. then, its findings are fueling an escalating outcry to defund Planned Parenthood.

Since 2009, at least five nationwide polls have confirmed that a majority of Americans consider themselves pro-life.

Someone, then, needs to explain to all those people why $2.3 billion in tax dollars have been doled out to an organization that admits to systematically having killed more than 1.8 million pre-born babies between 2002 and 2008 and then reports it only spent $657.1 million in federal dollars.

Has Planned Parenthood managed to tuck away megamillions of our tax dollars, seemingly unnoticed? Or is that much of its government funding coming from sources other than the federal government? Or is there a problem with the way Planned Parenthood is reporting its expenditure of our federal monies?

In just two weeks, Planned Parenthood will complete its 2009-10 fiscal year. Yet it still has not released its annual report for its 2008-09 fiscal year...

DILLER: Planned Parenthood's missing millions

If you want to destroy an organization, give it Federal money!

This is why I shudder at the gov providing money to "faith-based institutions."

Fed money is SO poorly monitored, it BEGS to be stolen. It starts slowly and because no one cares, it grows. Finally, someone is forced by the size of the theft to notice and an investigation proves that the orginization has been corrupted to the core.

If people are soulless enough to chop and vacuum children, stealing money is a mere moral appendage.

>> nation’s largest abortion chain

That’s right!

Calling a spade a spade.

I bet PP hates it, but that “Wal-Mart of Abortion” label ought to be made to stick.

Yes, their morality was still-born.

One thing they didn’t do with the money, was spend it on FR’s Servers.

Things are very slow here.

I would say there is one plus, if they have siphoned off that money it couldn’t be used for abortions.

That settles it. In light of how well it monitored how billions in family planning funds were spent, I say we put the feds in charge of doling out $20 billion to help victims of the oil spill. How could we possibly entrust such an important task to a greedy and inefficient oil company?

And if the feds somehow mishandle the funds, we’ll always have the GAO at the back end to tell us to the penny how much got wasted. I am so proud to be a taxpayer.

At $2.3 billion in taxpayer dollars alone, that's about $1300 per dead baby the suffering taxpayers are kicking in.

Mass murder is paying pretty well these days, and we're helping to pay for it.

We’ve been in this corporate welfare biz for years....and yet, most Americans think their tax money doesn’t go for abortion.

Obviously, every penny Planned Parenthood receives feeds its abortion business in one way or another.

For instance, Title X money is not to be used for abortions. However, according to Abby Johnson, former director of Planned Parenthood's abortion center in Bryan/College Station, Texas, it is used to gain the trust of women in minority neighborhoods in order to bring them into Planned Parenthood facilities, supposedly for health care, and then persuade them to become Planned Parenthood birth-control clients. Then, when the birth control fails, the organization has a built-in minority clientele for abortion, which Ms. Johnson says is Planned Parenthood's big cash cow.

Interview with Abby Johnson
". . .They [PP] assume that minority women are naive and will listen to anything they say. . . For the entire fiscal year '09 our family planning clincs were in the hole; . . .the only reason Planned Parenthood made any money in fiscal year '09 was because of their abortion services. It's a cash business; they don't file insurance because they want to be sure they get the money up front. . . . they charge anywhere from $500 to $900 for abortions up to 16 weeks . . . that [abortion profit] really is what saves them at the end of the year. . . As many as 8 of 10 women who view ultrasounds and view the heartbeat of their child change their minds about abortion. . . Abortion facilities don't want women to make that maternal connection because then they lose money if the woman chooses life. . . Almost all the women walking in to have an abortion think it's a baby; when they ask you questions, they say, 'What about my baby?' They call it a baby, but the clinic workers are not going to respond in that same kind of language."

Abortion clinic says seeing image of preborn child may "make the decision harder"
