Ever since Congress passed the healthcare reform last March, many states have been trying to sue the Federal government or vowing to pass their own legislation to block the overhaul. Last week, Lousiana has become the latest state to do so.
Following in the footsteps of Virginia, Idaho, Arizona and Georgia, the Louisiana legislature passed House Bill 1474 on June 18, which was modeled after the American Legislative Exchange Councils (ALEC) Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act. The new legislation removes the requirementpresent in the federal billto force individuals to buy or maintain health insurance coverage.
"Louisiana [sent] a clear message to the president and Congress that there is broad, bipartisan opposition to the centerpiece of their health reform agenda," said ALEC Health Task Force Director Christie Herrera.
The states legislature also became the first Democrat-dominated assembly in the country to pass a similar measure.
The bill will now head to the desk of Governor Bobby Jindal who is expected to sign it into law. ADNFCR-1961-ID-19851864-ADNFCR
Will Louisiana pay the tax bill when the IRS sends a demand letter for payment? Will Louisiana protect you in some way? I don't think so. It is a nice move by Jindal but I see no practical effect. You still go to jail if you refuse to pay the penalty to the IRS.
I am not so sure jail would be the outcome..So many Americans want this healthcare bill repealed..
For the lack of response from Obama concerning the destruction of the ecosystem of the Gulf I would think every gulf state should review anything and every Federal decision or law.
Its being censored, its being quieted down, but the reality is this, the Gulf of Mexico is being destroyed, the fishing is being destroyed, tourism is being destroyed.
There is just not enough emotion being shown about this, Obama is laughing, he is golfing, people are literally committing suicide about the loss of their livelihood.
And there is no guarantee it will be stopped for a long time, it is in some respects being viewed as a possible extinction event buy the effects it will trigger in our generation.
Already the toxic levels of methane, benzene, and hydrogen sulfide are many times above a safe level, and then there is the unknown factors of what a hurricane will do.
By all means all the gulf states should get together and unify against the Obama agenda. Just say no, tell Obama that you care not for us so we care not for you or your ideology.
You’re right. Rollover and play dead.
Perhaps the sinister federales may move on to the other suckers who won’t fight!
Good work!

Just another handy crisis that just might blow up in their faces and torpedo this evil regime that seeks the destruction of America.
No wonder Obambi is dragging his feet on helping Jindal build sandberms, etc.!
Exactly, And the Senate bill that passed had lame mandates meaning it's cheaper to pay the fine than buy insurance. Remember the Obama-care bill outlaws pre-existing condition exclusions. This means that that like in NY State, many can now wait till they get a serious illness before they buy health insurance and then bankrupt the companies.
This is what you call a symbolic move.
Obama is suing Arizona, and Louisiana is next.
Obama is the Red Queen of Washington DC.
He wants heads lopped off for those that oppose him.
Once again we have some on our own side who come here and sound like pathetic losers!
Some of you folks remind me of that character on the old Flintstones cartoon named “Bad Luck Shleprock”...”Oh no, it will never work....we’re doomed!”
Thank G-d some of you losers weren’t around during the time of our Founding Fathers...we’d still be under the control of British rule!
What pathetic losers we have on our own side.
My guess is InterceptPoint and sickoflibs would also be crying doom if Louisiana did nothing.
Please guys, just go hide in your basements and let the rest of us fight this thing...we’ll let you know when we’re done.
Can you give any specific reasons to back up your cartoonish response to the comments? Calling people names without giving a coherent, reasoned argument about their comments pegs you as troll-ish.
What say you?

LA is trying to do something positive, and like always, some on our side can only find the negative to it. You’d think we’d be applauding this move! This negativity will be our country’s doom, because it only fosters hopelessness.
Secondly, if I were a “troll” don’t you think I’d be celebrating the negativity on our side instead of being critical of it? Your assertion makes no sense.
Oh. Well then, let’s just let them do as they please. By all means come and take my liberty. Let’s all just give it up willingly.
I understand your opinion much better now that you have put a reason behind it. That’s all I asked for.
I too salute what LA has done. And yes, the “Whoa is Me” lobby gets no respect from me.
I think another dozen or so states will have to take the same tack to drive a stake (mixing metaphors) through Obaminable-Care.
I meant: "Woe is Me"

Thank you for your kind reply. I’ll try and do a better job of explaining my position next time. I was probably a bit too harsh with InterceptPoint and sickoflibs.
I think we’re all just so utterly frustrated with the deliberate destruction of our country, that being hopeful can be challenging at times. But we simply must cheer our side when they do something right.
I agree with your assessment that “another dozen or so states” will definately solidify our attempts to squash Obamacare.
Thanks for your thoughts and observations!
The first could be the Western cowboy version.
