Israeli top spy, Meir Dagan, is stepping down. According to local TV station Channel 2, Dagan, who was appointed as head of Mossad in 2002, requested to continue another year in the role, but was refused by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Sources tell Fox News that the main reason for Netanyahu’s decision is the international criticism following the January assassination of Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai, which was widely believed to be carried out by Mossad agents using forged foreign passports. Israel never responded to the allegations made by Dubai Police regarding the case.

According to the report, Dagan successor will be a person from within the organization. Fox News has learned that among the candidates Dagan’s former deputy and two current heads of Mossad units, ‘Tevel’ and “Tzomet’. Another name that was mentioned, current head of Israeli Shin Bet, Yuval Diskin.

An official announcement is expected in a few weeks.

they didn’t really get caught. Apparantly, the entire hit squad made it safely out of the country.

Also keep in mind that there is a lot of misinformation from Dubai on this case—I highly doubt Israel would send in 27 agents to perform this hit—it’s not believable.

That's JUST WHAT MAKES it believable! ;)

A REAL bad guy bites the dust, even his (interviewed) mother expected it way before the HIT.

FINI! Mission Accomplished! Put to Bed! Won't be down for Breakfast! The announcement just is a sort of olive branch to publicly move on.

Top guy is removed- will move on, retire-never retire, makes it even more believable.

It's now you see it, now you don't..confusing as my post? A word scramble.

Some of us have payed pretty close attention to the story in the study of other things.

On the positive side, is that just like other retired spychiefs, he now has time to devote to writing his memoirs — which definitely would be a bestseller, Dagan has lived an exceptional life.

..but they always have their "contacts" even though retired or can "consult" [for money] when needed. His talents will not be wasted.

Writing a book seems admitting you are not needed anymore and have to live in the past. I actually hope he doesn't go the book route.

It's better to let the lying dogs believe you are sleeping.

Like in Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy, I think George Smiley came out of “retirement” and whacked the mole.

I sincerely hope some intelligence reports of Obama go public shortly thereafter.

Mossad knows, they have the best humint assets worldwide. Not the largest as China has them beat by a large margin, they have simply the best.
