I'm not personally familiar with this source, but if there's even a small kernel of factual basis here, it's definitely 'hmmmm-worthy'.....

Bashar al-Asshat should consult with the Egyptians, they’ve had lots of experience with plagues, like locusts, frogs, etc., had something to do with messin’ with God’s chosen people.

“Fleas often serve as common vectors of plague.”

Old, leaking Iraqi containers of it could be a vector, too. Is just the Syrian army affected? Hmmm... Must be the joooooooooos!

The Syrian president has told Syrian news sources that food and drinking water in military bases, coupled with one of the country's worst droughts in over 40 years, are responsible for the outbreak of plague.

Global warming, Bush's fault.

The Syrian president has told Syrian news sources that food and drinking water in military bases, coupled with one of the country’s worst droughts in over 40 years, are responsible for the outbreak of plague.

This runs counter to general epidemiological thought on pest born disease.

Typically outbreaks of vermin carried disease occur during periods of abundant food supplies for the vector host (for example during periods of abundant rain).

A drought would cause a die off of rats and mice; therefore fewer carriers for the plague bacterium.

I suspect the validity of this theory.

Hmmm, indeed. Nothing mentioned about a current or serious "outbreak" in Syria at the CDC's website: Plague. It's not uncommon throughout the developing world, and it occurs here in the U.S. as well.

Drinking water, food and a heat wave are not common causes of plague, Examiner.com says, unless they have increased the contact between humans and plague carriers. Because of this, the article says, questions should be raised about the true cause of the Syrian army plague.

I'll take "Angel of the Lord" for a thousand, Alex.

A few days ago, a thread about plague in the Syrian army was pulled because the source only had speculation and Syria had denied it. I wonder if that’s changed or whether this is a rehash.

Isaiah 17:1 — “This message came to me concerning Damascus: ‘Look, Damascus will disappear! It will become a heap of ruins. The cities of Aroer will be deserted. Sheep will graze in the streets and lie down unafraid. There will be no one to chase them away. The fortified cities of Israel will also be destroyed, and the power of Damascus will end. The few left in Aram will share the fate of Israel’s departed glory,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Isaiah 17:1-3

Damascus is the oldest, continually inhabited city in the world and to have it suddenly abandoned/destroyed might be from a bio weapon such as the plague.

According to these verses, the cities of Aroer, which are located on the northern bank of the Arnon River just east of the Dead Sea, will also be deserted. However, the passage doesn’t say they will be destroyed in the same manner as Damascus, just that they will be deserted. It may be that people simply flee these cities out of fear of the plague or another bio weapon that will be carried by the winds.

In addition, many of the fortified cities in northern Israel will also be destroyed. Those few who remain in Aram, 38 miles south southeast of Damascus, will share the fate of these northern Israeli cities.

“‘In that day the glory of Israel will be very dim, for poverty will stalk the land. Israel will be abandoned like the grain fields in the valley of Rephaim after the harvest. Only a few of its people will be left, like the stray olives left on the tree after the harvest. Only two or three remain in the highest branches, four or five out on the tips of the limbs. Yes, Israel will be stripped bare of people,’ says the Lord, the God of Israel.” Isaiah 17:4-6

If the bio/chem weapons that were transferred from Iraq to Syria, right before we went in and liberated it, and stored underground are either leaking or are being used for weapons testing by the Syrians what we see starting to happen might continue to spiral out of control forcing Damascus and the area within a certain radius of the city to be evacuated.
