Asked what President Obama knew about the spy swap, a senior administration official tonight said that "the president was kept fully informed of developments and approved the recommendations of his national security team on how the matter should be handled." On the PBS NewsHour this evening, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel elaborated, saying, "It was not the decision of the president. It was the decision, obviously, of the law enforcement community and the intelligence community." Did the president sign off on it? Jim Lehrer asked. "The president was briefed about it," Emanuel said.

“It was not the decision of the president”

Really? Do tell. Who is running our nation’s national security? Maybe the president could not be part of the solution of dealing with foreign agents because he is part of the problem?

They’ve been here for a decade. Did they know something about Obama that prompted this expulsion?

This was too quick.

I have never seen a President indicate so often that he is not in charge. Every one is off doing their own things, and as long as they get around telling him about it, he is okay with that.

I may be mistaken, but the office of President is the chief administrator for our Republic. When he gets elected he is given the power to make policy decisions, not the Cabinet. His suborndinates are suppose to see that his decisions are carried out. They can make recommendations, but he has to decide (and be responsible for them).

The way I read this, he is not responsible for anything (unless it is good news, then he is the man).

I do not know if I should believe him or not. I know why he is doing it, I just do not know if he knows.

Sometimes I wonder if somebody (or people) in the intelligence community or military is pulling his strings, period. He strikes me as just being a “sock puppet” for somebody else.

In its haste, this exchange follows no known Cold War pattern. It seems the Russians wanted their people out of the USA as badly as Obama did. This one stinks to high heaven, and the stench emmanates not only from the White House, but the Justice Department as well. I wonder what Panetta has to say about this?

Perhaps but for sure the democrat party. That was their job. I keep asking myself why Russia would trade 4 high value operatives of our for 10 very low value operatives of theirs. This has never been done before. For some reason Obama wanted them the hell out of here and quick.

THIS STINKS

I think they did. There was an article yesterday that noted that several of them were "close to" some think tanks associated with Bambi. Not that his name belongs in the sentence with anything related to "thinking," but I imagine these would have been some kind of left-wing strategy organizations.

Obama got put up there and elected by somebody outside of our normal political circles, and it would not surprise me to find that a Soviet/Russian influence in it. Plus they probably know he's not a natural born citizen...

Interestingly, the 4 they traded really weren’t even “operatives.” The charges against the scientist were clearly trumped up, probably for other reasons, one of the 4 was accused of spying for the UK, and the other two were accused of “having contact with foreign intelligence services” (although I didn’t read anything that led me to think that these were even US intelligence services). So they weren’t really operatives and weren’t really people who were directly connected with the US.

Curiouser and curiouser.

The Russkies consider “Agents of Influence” FAR MORE VALUABLE than mere secrets.

I GUARANTEE that the Russkies called on all the American pols and presstitutes that they OWN to pull off this swap.

The government is riddled with foreign agents working for various enemies. The best way to catch them is deep background investigations and very thorough IRS audits going back as far as possible.
