Britain bars Iroquois lacrosse team in passport dispute

A Native American team forfeited their opening match of the men's lacrosse world championship on Thursday after being denied entry to Britain on tribal passports.

The Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) said in a statement that the 23 Iroquois players had been told they needed U.S. or Canadian documents to attend the two-week tournament in Manchester.

The Iroquois, whose tribal ancestors are credited with inventing the game, say accepting such passports would be a blow against their national identity.

Maybe they can issue a formal complaint through the Iroquois ambassador to the UK... no, wait, the Brits don't recognize the Iroquois as a separate sovereign country. Well, we will just have to refuse to accept Celtic passports from the original tribes inhabiting the British Islands in response.

The way I see it, there is no need for US to get involved. If the Iroquois claim to be a separate nation, they can negotiate with Great Britain on their own. If I understand correctly, the Iroquois may also hold US citizenship and passports which GB does recognize. It is the Iroquois who have rejected that route. Let them deal with the Brits. They have before.

So, what exactly does an Iroquois passport look like since they didn’t have a written language?

Precisely! If the Iroquois want international recognition, they are going to have to sign some reciprocity treaties and open some embassies.

You can bet your butt that if they ran into big-boy problems while abroad they would quickly start banging at the door of the U.S. or Canadian embassies.

I suppose that the Brits could take them hostage and demand a tribute payment from the Iroquois Nation.

For a thoughtful discussion of this incident go to:

The site owner is an intelligent, well educated part Commanche who seems to love the US of A. He is a devout Christian and definitely a conservative.

It’s good to see the Brits giving American political correctness a swift boot in the @$$.

You really gotta go to this site and read the discussion of this by a guy I truly admire.

On the face of it...this ‘Indian’ passport sounds rather silly.

Hey, Michael Savage is also banned in Britfart.
Take a look at Britain, and you see what the US will be in a few years.... well no, under Obambie, it will be more like the old USSR, but just as screwed.
The UK has become a total joke as a nation of nitwits.

I don’t see it as political correctness. After reading what David Yeagley has to say, I see it more as ‘nationality’ pride by the Iroquois.

Not being indian or a descendant of native Americans...it does at first seem a rather silly stand to take.

Read what this Commanche descendant has to say.

Passports contain symbols known as “writing” that more advanced cultures developed to communicate information. The Iroquois did not develop such a system of communication.

Let Iroquois in - let muslims in

What a dilemma.....

A request from congress for Britain to recognize the team’s passports and let them participate.

The U.K. used to recognize the Iroquois passport, one of the few countries that did. Wonder what changed?

Interesting site. I'll have to keep it on my radar. Most Indian sovereignty articles I've read are a mishmash of Marxism and hatred for whites, so Mr. Yeagley's arguments are refreshing.

I think one problem in sovereignty arguments is that there is no good word in English for a sovereign country. Nation, country and (the general international word, but obviously not useful for the United States) state do not quite hit the target.

The British would rather allow muslims take up residence in their beleaguered country than allow proud harmless athletes participate.

Visit this site for a better understanding of this situation:
