Unions Going to Pot? Union Endorses Initiative to Legalize Pot in California

In their quest to find new members, unions are searching high and low—but especially high.

A couple of months ago, some pot (as in marijuana) workers in California unionized with the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW). As Big Government blogger, Bret Jacobson noted then, it sort of makes sense:

Now you can Super Size it and smoke a spliff without ever crossing a picket line.

But, just to show that unions are down with the times, the UFCW is taking the next step:

Taxing pot isn’t going to save California.

“A couple of months ago, some pot (as in marijuana) workers in California unionized with the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW).”

Quality will go down and the cost will go up. LOL! There was a hilarious story on Drudge tonight because dope heads in Oakland, CA are worried that dope may be “Wal Marted.” Seems the dopers selling “medical” mary jane want less competition.

I had read here another story a while back. Dopers were upset because in N Cal the cost of pot was dropping because so many people were growing pot. The little stoned facists do not want competition.

Interesting question is what will this do to company drug testing policies if it passes.

My brother in law works as a fireman and has to “provide a sample” regularly. THC stays in the system up to 30 days. If he puffs a joint on Friday night and does not have work until Monday...

Bingo! The state and unions think dope will bail out CA. This is almost like “It’s A Wonderful Life where the libs tunr CA into Potterville. I mean they have porn, drugs, soon more gambling, - other criminal activities including govt union workers.

I’m also wondering if this might just be a way to increase tourism to California. No one is going to admit that they are going their for the legal weed, but you know a lot of people might be thinking about it.

I know a lot of Japanese love to get high whenever they are anywhere that it is tolerated. It is NOT tolerated in Japan and just a gram of the lowest quality marijuana will get you locked up for years.

It’s virtually legal already in CA. I see local newspaper ads for free home delivery of “medical” marijuana.

The entire idea that marijuana is somehow going to save California-or any other state- fiscally is actually pretty absurd when you think about it.

The crop costs next to nothing to grow, the major expense is keeping it from the prying eyes of law enforcement or other criminals seeking to steal it.

If there is a big tax on it, a tax big enough to make a dent in a state budget, it will still be a tempting racket to grow untaxed pot.

If you think lots more stoners will be a point of positivity, by all means support legalization. But don’t fool yourself into thinking that it will do anything for state budgets or reduce the costs of law enforcement.

Yeah, I see the same ads here in "Progressive" Oregon, land of physician-assisted suicide.

I can’t see legalization as having any affect of workplace drug testing. Commercial drivers, rail, shipping and airline flight crews are all covered under federal drug testing requirements.

As California is about to go over a cliff, Californians are running away and escaping into la-la-land via their bongs.

Will the US Treasury bail out California? Who will buy the huge amount of US debt needed to pour money into the California sinkhole?

Unlike the banks (which are actually paying back TARP), this will be like Fannie and Freddie only worse - a neverending bailout that sucks the wealth of an entire nation down an endless black hole.

That’s all we need to keep people in a state of half-consciousness and apathy. Then they don’t have to think and don’t care if they do. Anything goes.
