The only reason we hear about this stuff is because of 9/11. Without that, islam would still be a weird distant ritualist thing like it was up until 9/10/2001.
Ever since, it’s been given attention like this article and my post now. The biggest PR coup in history.

On our school calendars Christmas is “winter break” and Easter is “spring break” so I guess a muslim holiday would be “new moon break”
The school calendars do cite Yom Kippur as a day off- the schools are just not allowed to teach the kids what “Yom Kippur” is about

In his view, closing schools for major Muslim holidays would help that process since an Americanized modern and moderate Islam would benefit all Americans.
I'd like to see the stats on how many muslim-Americans secretly cheered or approved the attacks on the twin towers and the Pentagon.
The only difference between a moderate muslim and a radical muslim is the time frame and method used for making America a muslim nation ruled by the Koran.

What a wonderful day it will be. ..I only wish he could expand his vision to include all of America rather than just the public school students of New York.Yeah, wouldn't another paid holiday be great? Sausages on the grill! Muzzie Holiday sales events at every car dealer! "But I would not feel so all alone, Everybody must get stoned."

Muslims and free-thinking advanced civilizations just don’t mix. This is why we don’t have “Teach A Chimp To Use A Bic Lighter Day”. It just wouldn’t work out.

Give every student 3 days a year for religious holidays and let’s end this stupid argument. A Muslim kid should have the same rights as a Jewish and Christian kid, but I’d better see his ass in a classroom on Rosh Hashanah.

The only reason that NYC Public Schools are closed on Jewish Holidays is that such a large percentage of teachers are Jewish, it would be impossible to staff the schools on these days.
Christmas is a Federal holiday, and Easter is no longera day off. It comes during “Spring” vacation.

My recommendation: we roll all the Muslim holidays into one National Muslim Day and celebrate it on September 11 each year. Good one!

an Americanized modern and moderate Islam would benefit all Americans. How? Why is this ridiculous generalization taken as axiomatic? A modernized Islam would not benefit America nearly as much as an exterminated Islam. Furthermore, recognizing barbarian holidays doesn't do a thing toward modernizing anything. It simply shows the savages that we're willing allies in our own defeat.

Funny article. But a more serious conclusion I believe the West will make - sooner than we think - will be that Islam is not a religion at all. It is a political ideology masquerading as a religion. And thus not subject to the Constitional protections of the first amendment. In addition, the very concept of Sharia Law is unconstitutional in that each State of the union is guaranteed a republican form of government. Shari Law specifically reject a republican form of government. To say nothing of violating the equal protection clause when it comes to women.
Eventually we must restrict-by law the practice of this ideology because it threatens our free institutions and our personal liberties.

Latif suggests that American Muslims are trying to develop their own contemporary identity as the religion of peace and tolerance. Then stage international protests condemning Saudi Arabia's 100% intolerance of all other faiths (no religious texts, no places of worship that are not Islamic). Condemn those muslim nations that impose a death penalty on muslims who convert away from Islam. Condemn the Saudis for having a death penalty for all non-muslims who'd dare enter the segregated cities of Mecca and Medina (it matter because all of those peaceful tolerant muslims bow to this segregated city every day).
Want to show your good nature? YOU go first. We do not have to "submit" to Islam to show YOU are tolerant.
