We will not be pressured into cancelling our scheduled Israel concert, Ian Anderson, of the famed British rock group Jethro Tull said in a statement recently published in the band's official website, saying that the proceeds of the upcoming show would be transferred to charities advancing co-existence between Arabs, Jews, and Christians.

Anderson's statement comes in the wake of recent cancellations by major artists in the wake of Israel's raid of a Turkish Gaza-bound aid flotilla, which resulted in the death of nine flotilla participants.

I might just have to give Tull a listen, and purchase a couple of downloads from him,

While Leftfield's official reason for cancellations was "technical problems," their official Facebook page published a letter sent to them by the organization Boycott Israel calling for them to "postpone your planned concert in Israel this summer, indefinitely."

Leftfield joined a growing list of artists and musicians who have recently cancelled their shows in Israel due to political reasons, among others were Elvis Costello, The Pixies, Jill Scott Heron, Santana, The Klaxons and the Gorillaz Sound System.

Such efforts by these organization are counter productive.

Music and entertainment bring various groups together and give them common ground and eventually a common cultural interest that they can build upon.

Same thing Elton John did. He played to a crowd of 50,000 people in Tel Aviv, despite pressures for him to cancel.

That and the fact that he graciously played for Rush’s wedding has me listening a lot more to Elton John these days.

Ah, Ian as I remember him! Tull has been playing on DirectTV’s concert channel and I have to admit to a slight bit of disappointment. The music was fantastic as ever, but Ian’s voice has changed, as is to be expected, I suppose.

I saw Tull a couple of times in Detroit in the 70s and met Anderson in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn in Maryland around the same time period. Good music.

I have always (I will age myself by saying since the first album) enjoyed Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite album or song, but for some reason Dun Ringill is an enjoyable ear worm.

I always liked Jethro Tull. I listened to Aqualung (for about the 290th time) just last week.
It’s good to see they are not like the cowards who did cancel.

I saw Ian Anderson and Tony Snow play together on stage in Washington DC. Tony Snow could also play a mean flute.

A funny story about Aqualung....

My business imports highend audio equipment from Europe and Far East and allowed me to become friends with a highly acclaimed mastering engineer who remasters from the original master tapes to gold CD, SACD and vinyl. He imparts incredible sound quality using his unique mastering methods.

He was contracted to remaster Aqualung to gold CD but the original masters could not be found. Months passed and still no masters.

Then in the middle of the night (Calif time), my friend receives a phone call from Ian who says he found the original master tapes....in his garage! They were sent PDQ to LA and the remastering was done with superb sound quality.
