Last week, when Gallup reported that fully half of Americans have "very little" or "no" confidence in Congress (the highest percentage for any institution since the pollster first asked this question in 1973), the news only underscored the scale of political opportunity for Republicans in the upcoming elections.
But with this opportunity comes a profound responsibility.
It's disturbing when the citizens of the world's greatest democratic republic feel so alienated from their government, and it's dangerous to America's long-term civic health.
Even as Americans have been buffeted by the worst economic downturn since the Depression, they have been politically brutalized by a president and Congress more intent on ramming through a left-wing political agenda often against voters' expressed wishes, as with health care than in addressing their most pressing concerns.
That's why Republicans must do everything they can to show that they understand the legitimate needs and expectations of the electorate, and that they intend to meet them.
In short, if they are to maximize their political gains and, more importantly, restore Americans' fraying faith in the institutions that are supposed to represent them, Republicans must prove through both their policies and their behavior that they are serious.
That's why it was particularly disappointing to learn that, as part of a quixotic third-party run for governor of Colorado, one-time Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo had taken to the airwaves denouncing President Obama as a greater threat to America than al-Qaida, and calling for a remedy that's as legally unsupportable as it is politically untenable: impeachment.
One could certainly forgive voters for heaving a collective sigh of disgust at such cynical self-promotion.

Hussein is a greater threat to the Republic than al-Qaida and impeachment is certainly legally supportable - on multiple fronts. Not that any of the criminals and ball-less wonders in congress would do it.
I think IBD imported some of the Wall Street Journal’s old class warrior-cheaper labor lunatics. WSJ reads more calmly these days. They used to fume about Tancredo too.

Many of us happen to agree with the observation of the danger.
When exactly, would "Whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness" kick in?

I don’t want Tancredo to split the vote but I completely agree with his statements about 0baMao. That lying jug-eared Marxist IS the biggest threat to the United States by far.
Easily remedied by a considered, careful and judicious application of the Second Amendment, just as the Founders predicted would be necessary.
But today American's are do-nothing wimps so much more concerned with disarming other folks and impeding open gun purchases that they allow their own rights to be infringed, and far more than merely infringed.
A license for "concealed carry?" Gimmee a break. You folks have really lost it if that's what you support. "Concealed carry" should be a *fundamental right* of every free citizen.

We need a simple way to show our outrage and displeasure of this impostor, like everyone flushing a toilet at noon, not just once, but everyday. Sort of a symbolic 'Wish you weren't here' message. This may sound paranoid, but in the event this Marxist suspends civil liberties (those that remain), I consider it logical and likely that CCW databases would be the first place they'd look to begin weapons confiscation.

Most educated adults are aware that "unlikely" is not the same as "untenable."
When two entire branches of government conspire to ignore the Constitution, the RICO statutes should kick in. Public Trust is a forgotten concept. Of course Congress would not impeach criminal acts by this executive.
The Constitution did not envision the possibility that some future politicians would have the cojones to go that route (conspiracy) to circumvent the requirements and obligations on both branches, and conspire to ignore their main duties and obligations -- to the people who elected them, not to each other!
The people are helpless, and the States, the only other feasible source of serious Constitutional challenge, seem totally willing to sit on the sideline, and allow their citizens to be steamrollered, figuratively, politically and financially, by megalomaniacs.
Real fear begins when one party controls all three
branchs of government, one only need consider a
second Obama administration, regained democrat control
of House and Senate, and a packed Supreme Court that
would find “penumbras” to justify any actions of the
executive and legislative branches.
Right now we have a chance but it’s a slim one and
the window of opportunity won’t stay open forever.
I don't own firearms, but if I did, I would conceal them away from any property in my ownership. Then I'd report it stolen.

Forcing a citizen to have to register his ultimate means of protecting life and property, is certainly a good target for individual nullification.
What would the Feds do if, over a few weeks' time, several million registered firearms are reported stolen?
Part of what makes Obama a bigger threat to America than al Qaeda is his obvious sympathy for the jihadis including the Lockerbie killer, upon whose release in Scotland he winked.
We might add his complete disregard for the Constitution that he swore to uphold.
