The biases of Christiane Amanpour
The Daily Caller ^ | July 30 2010 | Benjamin Kerstein

Posted on 07/29/2010 10:36:24 PM PDT by Brugmansian

This Sunday, former CNN war correspondent and television host Christiane Amanpour will take over as host of ABC’s venerable public affairs show “This Week.” Her selection for the post, however, has caused a surprisingly potent backlash . . .

The most bitter of these critiques was occasioned by Amanpour’s 2007 documentary series God’s Warriors. The series examined religious extremism in three parts — on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, respectively. Many Jews and other supporters of Israel were outraged both by the format of the documentary, which equated Judaism and Christianity with radical Islam . . .

Pugnacious conservative writer Michelle Malkin, referring to a tense exchange with Amanpour over waterboarding, called her “happy to spread disinformation about America’s efforts in the war against terror,” and holds that, for Amanpour, “the U.S. is no different than the murderous Khmer Rouge.”

In one unusually candid conversation during the ultimately tragic search for John F. Kennedy, Jr., Amanpour recounted to Larry King how she had been the JFK Jr’s lifelong friend. “It began nearly twenty years ago in college,” she said. “We were college mates. I didn’t go to the same university as he did, but we shared a house off-campus, along with others of his friends who remain friends today.” No one, it seems obvious to point out, who is “college mates” with JFK Jr. can possibly be described as an outsider to the establishment . . .

I think she really meant the "mate" part; and obviously never got over it.

Hey, Christiane, you *do* know that Lee Harvey Oswald (who killed your "mate") was a Communist, don't you?

A little bit of transferred Stockholm Syndrome, there, what?

Cheers!

What an utter joke she is.

Some reporters see their job as being objective observers of fact. Ammanpour and so many others see it as being propaganda, though she'd never classify what she does as that. But what else could it be?

“It drives me crazy when this neutrality thing comes up. Objectivity, that great journalistic buzzword, means giving all sides a fair hearing—not treating all sides the same—particularly when all sides are not the same. When you’re neutral in a situation like Bosnia, you are an accomplice—an accomplice to genocide.”

Lee Harvey Oswald didn’t kill JFK Jr; he killed JFK Sr.

Sigh. You mean she's that YOUNG??

But a single letter's difference between Jr. and Sr., and it's past midnight.

I hate it when I miss with a snark!

Cheers!

Despite asserting in 2009 that “nobody knows my biases,” Amanpour has gushed over many left-wing politicians, including Hillary Clinton: “...A lot of the women that I meet from traveling overseas are very impressed by you and admire your dignity.” She also justified Barack Obama’s Nobel Prize win, lauding, “He’s obviously done something very significant” since the U.S. now has a “new relationship with the rest of the world.”

She doesn’t seem to understand that giving a fair hearing doesn’t mean pleading a case for someone—it’s about standing back and reporting who and what and why accurately.

She’s just another of those sorts who applauds themselves for reporting that the USSR is a paradise, and when the truth comes out later can’t be found.

Well, I was able to watch This Week with Jake Tapper as the host as he would at least make attempts at being fair occasionally, but when I heard Christianne was taking over, it was the kiss of death for me. Won’t watch it now, they have now officially ruined their show. Hope her ratings tank bigtime, as I am quite sure they will.

Many years ago, I listened to exactly ONE report by this lying piece of cr*p. Even though I will occasionally tune into one of the propaganda stations to see what America's enemies are up to, I turn it off the second I see this b-itch. Anyone who thinks she's a reporter has the I.Q. of a zucchini.

ABC has thrown what little credibility they had left into the crapper.

I agree with you about Tapper. He reminds me some of Russert. Sure he’s a lib, but occasionally he tries to get to the truth. Occasionally is the best we can hope for from the lamestreamers.

* Jamie Rubin (former State Department Clintonista) and Christiane Amanpour (CNN war slut) [are married]-- 51 posted on 05/22/2004 1:31:22 PM PDT by Miss Marple

Look what he's known for [is it any wonder Nelson Mandela was a visitor to the once-incarcerated Libyan PanAm Flt 103 bomber?]:

1997 : (REPORT : SOUTH AFRICAN NUCLEAR PROGRAM HEAD, DR. STUMPF, SAID IRANIAN ATOMIC ENERGY MINISTER ARRIVED AT ONE POINT IN SOUTH AFRICA WITH A SHOPPING LIST OF MATERIALS FOR A NUCLEAR BOMB --- See NELSON MANDELA, JAMES RUBIN & THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION) [Al] Venter, an international correspondent for nearly 30 years, was presented with an ethical dilemma in 1997 when he met with Dr. Waldo Stumpf, head of South Africa's nuclear program. He says Stumph told him a story-off the record-about the atomic energy minister for Iran arriving with a shopping list of nuclear materials for a nuclear bomb. At the time, Venter was working for the Jane's Information Group. He was shocked by the story of Iran's search for a nuclear bomb but was constrained in telling it because it had been given to him off the record.
He considered it a story that could change the course of history. "The world has a right to know," he concluded. After consulting with his editor, who said it was a matter of conscience, Venter went public with an article in Jane's International Defense Review, causing an international sensation. Newspapers in France and Britain picked up the story and Venter was denounced in South Africa. Another journalist confirmed the story, but Nelson Mandela, then South African president, assured the Clinton Administration that no such meeting had taken place. On December 4, 1997, then-State Department spokesman James Rubin accepted the South African explanation and expressed "high confidence" in South Africa's commitment to nuclear non-proliferation. ------- "The Threat From South Africa," by Cliff Kincaid, AIM, March 16, 2005

This is the whore who - during an award ceremony in 2000 - stood and asked a room full of news industry professionals how they let Bush get as far as he had.
