EPA left to pick up climate change where Congress dropped the debate
Washington Post ^ | 8/4/2010 | David A. Fahrenthold and Juliet Eilperin

The Obama administration told Congress to find a way to regulate greenhouse gases -- or else.

Last month, Congress refused: Democratic leaders in the Senate declined to take up climate legislation before their August break, which means it looks effectively dead for this session.

Now the White House is stuck with "or else."

The Environmental Protection Agency will soon begin regulating greenhouse gases factory by factory, power plant by power plant. That could be unwieldy, expensive and unpopular -- even President Obama has said it's not his preferred solution.

But for now, it's his only option.

The next few months could bring a climax to the long-running debate over how to combat climate change, with the EPA trying to implement its rules and industry groups and opponents in Congress seeking to block it with lawsuits or legislation.

The administration will cite a mandate from the Supreme Court, which ruled in 2007 that greenhouse gases could be regulated like other air pollutants. But opponents will say it has chosen an approach that stretches the law and could impose serious economic costs.

The next few months could bring a climax to the long-running debate over how to combat climate change

The Pravda Media casts the debate as "how" when the REAL debate is whether anything should or could be done at all to affect climate.

Or they could do nothing rather then do extreme damage to the US Economy just to propagate the few fanatics of this pseudo scientific religious cult.

If The President and The Congress can’t throttle the nation the EPA will be more than happy to do so. The zealots in the bureau will be unleashed and their opinions and superstitions will become law.

Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution does not specifically list regulating the environment as an enumerated power! Therefore the mere existence of the EPA is unconstitutional and must be abolished!

I just want the EPA, Global Warming Scientists, the House, the Senate, UN, Al Gore or anyone else explain to me how charging Americans more for electricity, gas, oil or anything else they claim emits carbon is going to change climate? How? When no one but elite can afford to air-condition there homes how will it work? When we are living in mud huts what will be left to tax?

Please explain this to me.

I have not had a visit from the EPA since ‘07. The next time I fear they will be on a mission unprecedented since the Carter years.
