We need a new legal and semantic test for the word ‘religion’.

Any organization that proselytizes their belief system in part or in whole by coersion violates the definition of the word ‘religion’. Any faith with ‘convert or kill’ in its tenets anywhere should not be confused with ‘faith’, and shouldn’t enjoy the protection of the first amendment.

As such, Islam doesn’t meet the ‘faith’ test. It’s not a religion. It’s not even a cult. It’s a gang, and its members subscribe to the belief that if you do not accept Islam, then you should die, or be subject to those that are. It’s an autocratic form of government with a sort of dogma at its core. Himmler tried to give Nazism that sort of dogma artificially and succeeded mightily within Germany early on.

In the US should be able to choose freely to believe or reject the beliefs of any religion at any time without the threat of death, the withholding of rights, or without being subject to any economic penalty for leaving that religion.

If the dogma in question can’t withstand that test, then it shouldn’t enjoy first amendment rights. Jefferson in the Federalist papers actually suggested the test: “It neither breaks my back, nor picks my pocket, what another man believes. . .”

We are a court case away from such a test being applied. Some large company needs to withhold service based on their being Muslim, and then state that the discrimination based on faith didn’t meet the test based on the fact that any dogma relying on coersion as a method of proselyzation isn’t actually a faith since the dogma required violation of the higher and fundamental rights of ‘life’ and ‘liberty’.

With a very small tweak, mosques would suddenly be looked at as just another clubhouse and not a place of worship. We can and should raid and bomb more mosques, since radicals rely on the first amendment to ensure their arsenals remain safe.

In 1965, Sandy Koufax refused to pitch in Game One of the World Series because it was Yom Kippur, a Jewish holy day. Instead of Koufax, Don Drysdale pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he gave up seven runs in 2 2/3 innings. "I bet right now you wish I was Jewish, too," Drysdale said to Walter Alston when the manager came to pull him from the game. The Dodgers lost to the Minnesota Twins, 8-2.

Sandy Koufax regularly pitched on the Jewish Sabbath (sundown Friday to sundown Saturday), and never pitched on the first day of Passover, when the Passover Seder is held. He also never pitched on Rosh Hashanah.

In 1961, Yom Kippur began at sundown on September 19 and ended at sundown September 20. Koufax, as usual, fasted during the holiday. On the night of Sept. 20, though, he was on the mound and pitched the Dodgers to victory with a 13-inning, 15-strikeout, 205-pitch performance

Another prominent player who faced this classic dilemma was Indians third baseman Al Rosen, a four-time All-Star and 1953 AL MVP. Rosen, who played from 1947 to 1956, never played on Yom Kippur, but had a tough decision in 1954 -- the Indians were playing in the World Series against the New York Giants, and Yom Kippur fell during the World Series schedule.

Shawn Green, also of the Dodgers, is following in Koufax's footsteps tonight. Yom Kippur begins this evening, and Green is sitting out a critical game against the San Francisco Giants. Green will be missed -- he has already set the Dodgers record for home runs in a season with 48 and counting, and the Dodgers are in a desperate chase for the pennant, three-and-a-half games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West, and two behind the Giants. But Green grew up hearing about Koufax's demonstration of faith, and is determined to follow his example, saying, "There is nothing I would rather do than play against the Giants in a pennant race, but some things take precedence over that."

Then, Mr. O’ Neill should find another job. I choose my religion, then I give up the job. Can’t keep your cake and eat it to.

The moon-god is a real entity with any power at all...

He will certainly bless you...

Your pprofessional team however--
....is not similarly obligated!

I think the blessing of your obedience will include a PAID MOVE to your next team domicile.

Just sayin....

So wierd, american blacks turning to Islam because Christianity is a “slave religion.”

How incredibly ignorant can people be? The muslims to stop slaving.

For those interested, there were some tribes tha were into capturing and selling members of other tribes. One of the slaving tribes was the Luo tribe of Kenya. Yes, THAT Luo tribe of Kenya.

“I’m putting nothing before God, nothing before my religion,”

The problem with that statement (which could have been said by many “fundamentalists”) is that religious indoctrination has made it difficult if not impossible for them to distinguish between “putting nothing before God” and putting “nothing before my religion”, for in their mind the two ideas have no distinction; but I believe God disagrees.

I assume he knows that the Vikings once had a player die from dehydration and heat exhaustion during training camp. This ain’t exactly Sandy Koufax refusing to pitch on the Sabbath.

Even while sprinting in the heat and humidity during drills, sometimes in full pads, Abdullah is adamant about his faith. He will not allow himself so much as a cup of water until the sun sets and before it rises.

But Ramalama-ding-dong hasn't started yet....???

Tough for me to fault a person for adhering to religious principes, even in sports. Anyone recall the story from Chariots of Fire?
