Walter Reed FReep #277 - August 6, 2010 - The Battle of the Signs
August 10, 2010 | Tom the Redhunter

It started off a normal enough FReep, with the Patriots of Free Republic stationing ourselves at the four corners around the main entrance to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in northwest Washington DC

Before too long a car came out of WR, and the driver stopped to speak with with Cindy-True-Supporter and some other FReepers. He said that he had been down to the Pinkos and asked them if they were protesting the war or the troops. They said no. He then asked them if that was the case "why aren't you up there with the others who are supporting the troops?" And of course they had no answer.

We also had an interesting visit from a Ukrainian Jewish immigrant to the United States. He was walking by and saw our set up, and of course inquired as to what we were all about. He was quite convinced that Obama was an enemy of Israel, something that I wholeheartedly agreed with. As someone from a former East-block country, he knew what freedom and tyranny were all about.

As has happened so often in the past, the Pinkos down the street violated the rules as established by the authorities at Walter Reed by putting their signs on the fence and inside an area that had been taped off by the WR police. The WR police runt he "Do Not Cross" yellow tape every Friday before the Pinkos arrive. The Pinkos know the rules, they just choose to violate them.

Here you can see their signs inside the taped-off area

These rules were established and communicated to us and the Pinkos about a year ago by the new garrison commander. We, in face, were told to take two of our signs off the Walter Reed fence and put them up a few feet away on posts, which we did. The fence surrounding the hospital-base is government property and so that made sense. In the semi-circle where the Pinkos stood is also is a big "Welcome to Walter Reed" sign, and that is also government property, so it makes sense also that putting signs there is also prohibited.

Here are some Pinko signs illegally placed on the fence

Law-abiding citizens that we are, we did what comes naturally when you see someone violating the rules; we called the cops. The Walter Reed cops, to be precise

Here you can kind of see one of the cops talking to the Pinkos. If you look real close, I know the pictures is hard to make out

In the end the cops made them take down the signs they had posted against the fence... but not the ones inside the barrier. More strangely, they came by and told us to take down our "We Honor Our Troops" sign because it was too close to the fence and on WR property. It not being a good idea to argue with an insistent officer, we took down the sign. It's always better to deal with these issues later with the proper authorities. We know who to contact inside WR and this is being done this week.

Stay tuned for next week's report on the Battle of the Signs Part II

What It's All About

Disputes over signs aside, we're there for the troops and their families. Here they are arriving back to the hospital from an evening out

Excellent after action report. Nice job, I love to hear the difference between adults and children in these types of situations, and you guys always come out as the responsible ones.

Keep up the good work, I am going to try to stand with all of you in September, if possible.

Yep - bummer about our red banner but it will be straightened out this Friday.

Thanks for the AAR. Good reminiscing of the nice weather, lots of honks and beeps, and two salutes.

We had several soldiers and staff that came through the gate that we were able to thank. We thanked the soldiers for their service and thanked the staff for helping our troops. There are several staff members that regularly walk by and we have a very good repore with them, occasionally talking a bit before they head home.
