Rovian immigration fallacy: There is no upside to amnesty for illegal aliens
The Washington Times ^ | 08/17/2010 | Tom Garcia

Posted on 08/18/2010 3:24:25 PM PDT by iowamark

Throughout his partnership with President George W. Bush, Karl Rove argued that a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens would be a political winner for the Republican Party...

But on what premise is this theory based?

First, it assumes that all U.S. citizens of Hispanic descent favor a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens, whether those aliens come from Malaysia, Ireland, Kosovo, Somalia or Russia. While it obviously is true that the leftist, top-down, unelected leadership of the ethnocentric advocacy organizations La Raza, the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund and the League of United Latin American Citizens, as well as their organized masses of illegal alien street marchers, are boisterous in their clamor for "comprehensive immigration reform," it isn't equally clear how many ordinary, everyday U.S. citizens of Hispanic descent share those passions...

What's more, the tens of millions of newly amnestied citizens legally would be able to bring in their next of kin through chain migration, swelling the overall number to potentially more than 50 million within a decade of the amnesty - constituting a permanent Democratic majority...

The way to increase the percentage of American-Hispanics voting for the Republican Party is (1) To raise their standard of living (and everyone else's) by a return to free-market principles; (2) by an open appeal to their shared American patriotism and (3) by clearly and unapologetically stating the unequivocal rejection of amnesty in any guise, shape or form. U.S. citizens of Hispanic origin don't love the rule of law less than other Americans and understand that the United States already has the most generous legal immigration policy on earth. Given a clear choice and a positive appeal, many will rally....

Most of the illegals are not here to become citizens. They are just escaping whatever craphole country they lived in and they bring their corruption and crime with them.

Most of the illegals marching in the La Raza protest marches are not even asking for citizenship. They want permanent residet status and government handouts while retaining Mexican citizenship and loyalty to Mexico. Why the hell do we want to give the dearest thing on earth to people who don’t deserve it and don’t want it?

Of all the things I’ve heard come from the goofy wing of the Republican Party, the idea that amnesty is somehow good for the Republican party wins the ridiculous prize. It will tip the 70/30 ratio of Hispanics voting Democrat to Republican. It will become more like 80/20. Appeasing the radical agenda of the left is never a good thing, and it never makes anyone love conservatives.

And that was one of the dumbest political arguments ever. Hannity and some others love to refer to Rove as "The Architect". Maybe it's earned, as he was the primary architect of the nosedive in Republican party fortunes between the elections of 2004 and 2008.

But there remain some, mostly Beltway Republicans and elites, who say amnesty for illegals is still the way to win Latino votes for Republicans. It's good to see The Washington Times discuss the foolishness of this continuing notion on the part of some.

True. But they will gladly accept citizenship if it is handed to them or sold cheaply enough, particularly when it includes an ATM card to a cornucopia of government bennies.

I'd agree with that -- but it would require some things that most political cliques would oppose on various grounds. Number one, we the people need to have control over immigration, IOW, the gov't has to be enforcing existing laws; number two, we need to exclude ALL Moslems, turning them back at the gates; number three, we need to have a border fence, period; number four (and here's the Rovian angle as I'd implement it), we need to set up the immigration and naturalization courses in our consulates and embassies (and in places like Mexico, every little border town).

We should also use the HUD program, which already exists and generates property that shiftless losers refused to pay for, to put approved new immigrants into housing upon arrival. Priority should be given to areas which ordinarily vote for the Demwits, thus leveraging the bastards right out of power and creating a durable Pubbie majority.

There, that should pour some gasoline on the fire.

Drill the ANWR!
