Obama comes out in favor of 9/11 health bill: Pres. to sign Zadroga bill into law
The New York Daily ^ | 8-18-10 | Richard Sisk and Samuel Goldsmith

In a breakthrough for 9/11 first responders, President Obama ended his silence on the Zadroga Bill on Wednesday and backed the uphill drive to get it through Congress.

"The President looks forward to signing the 9/11 health bill into law, once it passes both houses of Congress, to help the first responders whose health and livelihood were devastated by the events of Sept. 11," a White House statement said.

Elated first responders and their families said it was the first show of support from Obama since the presidential campaign and boosted chances for bringing the bill to another vote in the House next month. A previous effort failed last month.

Obama's statement came a day after he was slammed in a letter by John Feal, head of a first responder advocacy group, as reported in the Daily News.

"Why have you failed us? We thought you were our champion," wrote Feal, who took Obama to task for speaking up on the Ground Zero mosque, but staying silent on the Zadroga bill.

"It was the Daily News that got this done," Feal said Wednesday night. "We're very encouraged. I think it's great that [Obama] says he'll help, but will he actively push both houses [of Congress] to pass our bill? We'll see."

“The proposed $7.4 billion measure named for the late Detective James Zadroga would provide health care and compensation for thousands suffering from a wide range of illnesses after working in the toxic Trade Center ruins.”

$7.4 BILLIONS, the entire GDP of many countries. Not too long ago a billion was a lot of money

So, if your loved one died at ground zero, the family only got $20 to $40 million, well ok, up to $100 million;

But if you died in a field in Pennsylvania after taking on the scum of the earth, your loved ones got a few million at best.

But, if you lived, your family gets to share a pot of gold, even after all your illnesses were paid for in the past 9 years, just in case you’re sick and may die early???

(And if you die after being a first responder after 20 years service you and your spouse already get 100% of your salary for the rest of your lifes.)

WTF: (Scratching head??)

Just wanted to reiterate how stupid you are, with your "I must put a black box around my comment because I'm so special ed" comment. Seriously, drop the arrogance, as though you are somehow "special" and need a black box around your comment, unlike true FReepers. You are no FReeper, impostor.

Hey, obama, don't look for any trade-off.

We, the first responders, will get what we need, and you will still get the shaft...from all of us.

We don't stand with scum.

TOTALLY disagree with the first responder reparations stuff.

If you are a first responder, it’s part of the job and already have health care and disability coverage if you are disabled as part of your job.

Any $$ given to the first responder movement is (another) payoff to unions.

With Obamacare, why is this needed?

To appease the masses and divert attention from his support of building the muslim victory tower 2 blocks from ground zero.

Obama comes out in favor of...

Where was he before? In the White House? In the men's room? If he changes his mind, does that mean he "goes back in opposed to..."?

Who writes this stuff? "Journalists" who learned English from their cellphones? *snicker*

...from NEW YORKER magazine on James Zadroga
by Ted Frank on November 26, 2008

I just got to the September 15 issue near the bottom of my pile of unread mail, and there’s an excellent piece of reporting by Jennifer Kahn on the case of James Zadroga, the police officer who worked at Ground Zero in the wake of 9/11 whose death was attributed to exposure to dust and was a symbol for the thousands of plaintiffs in that litigation–until the New York medical examiner found evidence that prescription drug injections were responsible for the lung scarring.

Kahn’s article is tremendously damning on that question. Zadroga’s name was successfully used to get legislation passed in New York state, and similar legislation (on which I testified) is pending in Congress to open the taxpayer fisc to thousands of questionable claims.

I think it’s just another slush fund, like the BP $20B...and they can drag it out at election time as a Demoncrats-take-care-of-the-little-people moment.

It's needed because Obama torpedoed NYC last week in favor of the Muslims and now is scrambling to pretend to show that he really does care about what happened on 9/11.
