I share the frustration with financial extortion which goes to political action, compensation packages exceeding the markets ability to afford them, and fully funding exec pensions while leaving the rank and file critically unfunded.

Just think that for trades requiring a skill, unions could serve a good purpose, without the crap as there would still exist a need for some sort of licensing and proficiency testing.

To me, it seems like useful unions were subjected to a takeover in a way...and indeed are 10 foot ‘gators! Was thinking it would be nice to tame the beast, rather than kill it. All could benefit: companies, workers, and end users of the fruits of the labor, which is really how it should be, don’t you think?

The good guy’s are going to have to run for union leadership and to learn to brave the crapstorms and even arm themselves for the threats that will be levied against them. Much of the upper management and leaderships of these unions are folks who’ve never carried a pick ax or driven a truck but they are mobsters who employ goons when they need to. It will take out and out war to uproot these vipers!

It should be a rule that management needs to come from the ranks. They’d know what they are doing and would be less likely to crap on the brethren, IMO.

It sounds like the membership is but a dues paying tool for a political machine. Oh, come to think of it, that’s what taxpayers are as Obama sends money off here and there, placing us into further debt servitude.

Once a union is formed it’s against the ‘rules’ for members to go to a different union or create a more perfect union. This aspect convinced me long ago that it wasn’t about the members. Keeping options open keeps a union honest...

If this were some little guy, you’d be right, but inspectors, city inspectors who owe their jobs to their Democrat sponsor, will do their master’s bidding.

The 9/11 Victory Mosque will be built and occupied.

You may be right. The FDNY is the only entity that could do that and get away with it.

They’d be under a ton of pressure and their chiefs and deputies are beholden to NY Democrats for their jobs and lifestyles. Will Cassano bend and break the chiefs.

What are the rules on inspections? Can they be overridden by higher ups?

Unions are good, as you describe them. Unions are the natural outgrowth of liberty. People should be free to organize themselves as they see fit. Freedom of Association is a natural right.

The trouble comes from the legal monopoly granted unions by the Federal Government and localities - states and cities.

See National Labor Relations Act, Davis-Bacon Act, (Prevailing Wage is determined by Union Wage Rates not actual Market rates), etc.

If Union labor competed on productivity and quality then it wouldn’t be a problem. Union labor today is political labor. It no longer represents working people.

Most licensing laws are anti-Black and anti-minority and by default anti-consumer.

Union management by default will not come from the rank and file. The modern union is a form of feudalism or tribalism with rights and privileges accruing to the top members and their friends and families.

This is why Democrats and Unions go together their default behavior is feudalism/tribalism. They both rule by force of law rather than by natural ability or liberty.

The rank and file serve as well paid serfs. See the dummies at the hall waiting for work. It is a welfare system. A good union carpenter can work all year round on side jobs. They need the pension and medical benefits the union provides.

Modern unions are not pro-labor, labor is just a tool, a means to an end for the elite.

Pig blood in the concrete mix. They'll NEVER get it out.

Actually, they are planning not only pig blood, but dog urine and some other surprises.

I don't think that such things are as big a deal as many, but I do find it rather amusing to know that these things are going on.

"....But, and I do say this as a realistic response, they will find others to do it, including importing workers...."

Not in New York they won't. This ain't Peoria and the unions will not allow scabs to come in on their turf.

A few "accidents" might happen to get their point across.

The Freedom Tower is currently under construction. The site is an active construction zone now.

How about LARD ? Would it breech the integrity of the concrete? If they use Dubai architects everything will just collapse anyway. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they find their own crew from the UAF over in Britain and fly them over here to build it.

I know a guy who worked on a mosque in Manchester England and he and some others got some bacon and buried it between the building supports and just under the floor.

Still to this day the muslims are praying towards a bunch of bacon and they do not know.

This is what they refer to as a victory mosque...it is what they build when they believe they have pummeled their enemy. It will be viewed as a western mecca...muslims from around the world will journey there on every 9/11 to celebrate.

And when I see your reply - I'll repeat it...

The Democrat Media operatives have come up with a new word. No more ground zero mosque. Introducing the new and improved “Cultural Center”.

One thing I always despised about the union mentality is the use of the word “scab.” In my experience, a union man would be the first to hire a different gardener or plumber to save a buck in his own life, but wails at anyone who might agree to work for less when the time comes around to negotiate a new contract with the "oppressive" business owner who's out to "exploit the working class."

That’s my question.

It’s been almost 9 years. Is there anything going up yet or are they still futzing with a hole in the ground? I was at ground zero in 2006 and it didn’t look like anything was being built.

Before it’s all over with Federal agents will be protecting workers at the mosque construction site and the DOJ will be prosecuting people for civil rights violations.

The Administration will try and turn this into another Mississippi summer of 1964.
