Japan to Stage Drill in Response to Chinese Naval Buildup

Tension is growing in the South China Sea as Japan works out a response to China's naval buildup.

The Japan Self-Defense Forces plan to stage a massive drill in December to practice recapturing islands in the Ryuku chain, also known as the Nansei Islands, which stretches from the southern tip of Kagoshima to Okinawa and waters near Taiwan. The drill is based on a hypothetical seizure of the islands by China, the Yomiuri Shimbun daily reported on Thursday.

Japan will mobilize state-of-the-art equipment including F2 fighter jets and PC3 patrol planes. The 7th U.S. Fleet will support the drill, the daily said.

It quoted a Japanese Defense Ministry official as saying, "This drill aims to show Japan's will and capability to defend the Ryukyu Islands."

There is speculation that this drill also aims at securing the Senkaku Islands, which are controlled by Japan but claimed by China, where they are known as the Diaoyutai Islands.

The drill will be staged at Hijudai Artillery Training Area near Oita in eastern Kyushu. The Self-Defense Forces will reportedly simulate transport, evacuation and counterattack in the event of a war on the chain of islands that stretches over 1,000 km east to the west.

Interesting to look at Diaoyutai Islands, claimed by Japan, Okinawa prefecture.

The ChiComs have posted pics on google of Red Chinese raising red flag and photo shopped communist graffiti.

Looks like Japanese have some work to do.

Um... one of those flags is the non-Communist Republic of China / Taiwan flag. Both the PRC and Taiwan claim those islands.

You can bet the Liberal Free Trade Globalists, who support Free Trade with Commuinist China, are not liking Japan right now....

Good to see Japan ramp up the defenses and prepare against Communist China. Absolutely stoopid for the USA to continue to ship jobs and wealth to Communist China......the USA keeps funding the Communist Chinese military while cutting back on US defense spending

Actually , they had some sort of artillery exercises there today . From about 9 a.m. I could hear bomb blasts echoing off of the mountains every few minutes until about noon . Not the first time I’ve heard this mind you . Maybe 3-4 times a year ?

I wonder if Japan has a small nuclear arsenal. If the US starts to exit Asia, Japan will have no option but to build a counterforce nuclear arsenal to deter China and perhaps a united Korea also.

Absolutely stoopid for the USA to continue to ship jobs and wealth to Communist China......the USA keeps funding the Communist Chinese military while cutting back on US defense spending

The reason why America expands into China, is that they bring over manufacturing know how into China, build it up, so they can own it. GM is a good example. GM's workforce in China builds autos for the Chinese consumer. GM walks away with the profit. GM brought in management and the plans for the autos. And the computer systems that design the autos. The Chinese did the rest.

As China's auto industry develops, so goes the entire nation. And her ability to build up her military. So, in essense, the US didn't pay for China's military at all. But instead, plugged the Chinese into an economic system where she could develop as a nation. And out of that, China paid for her own military.

The reason why America is cutting back on the military (budget around $700 billion or so), is because of the $1.3 trillion in debt that was taken on last year and will occur this year.

The debt was a result of the economic collapse brought on by Wallstreet. Wallstreet banks, investment houses, made readily available credit that flow liked water in the trillions upon trillions up trillions of dollars. I think they call them derivatives.

It created a bubble that eventually collapsed. In essence putting the wealth of America into the hands of the few. When America borrows, and the national debt is expected to reach $20 trillion by 2020, it is borrowing from the wealthy. The very people that caused the financial crisis.

When you look at China's $2 trillion, its still IN AMERICA. It didn't leave. China, as she expands her presence across the globe, uses some of those dollars. But more and more, she is using her own currency to cut deals.

It is only when she tries to purchase US assets that she uses dollars. And so far, many of her purchases have been blocked. So, China, in essense, is sitting on a pile of dollars that will go down in value when she floats her own currency. As she tries to unload it by buying American assets, she is blocked. So, in the end, very little wealth was distributed to China.

The intangible went to China instead. And that is, the knowledge on how to build a developed world society.

Ultimately, what globalization does, is not reditribute wealth, but instead, pass on knowledge and experience. And that, I believe, is a good thing.
