AZ got
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
That is very surprising...however, my EVER OVERWORKED CYNICAL mindset says they HAD to give to AZ because it would look petty if they didn’t.
Also the R’s could use it as ammo telling the illegals the govt really didn’t want them cause they didn’t give them the money...
Just a thought...

However, in my heart of hearts, I really don’t believe ANYONE in the administration is smart enough to have this kind of thought process....ha....

I predict that when this runs its course, teachers will be held in the same esteem as lawyers.

Like: “What do you call 5,000 teachers on the bottom of the ocean?” It’s a bit of a stretch, since many teachers are loved by parents and children. But then there’s the other side.

So in the conflict between the private and public sector, teachers are at the front line and most vulnerable. Especially when there are alternatives like home schooling and private schools (at 50% the cost).

Not so with police, fire and prison guards.

I'll admit that I like Chris Christie and I knew nothing of Bret Schundler (and assumed the worst about a N.J. 'schools chief'). Reading about him now makes me wonder how these two got crosswise.

NJ conservatives were delighted when Schundler was chosen.

I'm very sorry to see him go.

But if he did put Christie in that position, it's just unavoidable.

Take the class on the internet and take the test at the local strip mall. Done. No school necessary.

"A good start."

It's a bad cruel joke, I know. It was applied to lawyers years ago. I don't think teachers are held in such low esteem, but they are heading to the same place lawyers now occupy.

Well mistakes can happen, but if video shows that things in the meeting didn’t go like you claimed they did.. then that’s troublesome... I’d like to know whats on the video and what He said happened.

There was a Democrat Congressman from New Hampshire in the late 80s and early 90s named Richard Swett. It’s bad enough that his parents named him Richard when his last name was Swett, but he actually went by Dick. That’s right, he would hand out campaign signs that said “Dick Swett” in huge letters. One would think that campaign ads against him would pretty much write themselves.

I don’t think he’s a knucklehead.. don’t know him. However if he told his boss he verbally communicated the missing information to the commission, and then evidence comes out he did not.. you can’t argue that he should not have to suffer the consequences.

“Along with Phase 1 winners Delaware and Tennessee, 11 states and the District of Columbia have now been awarded money in the Obama Administration’s groundbreaking education reform program that will directly impact 13.6 million students, and 980,000 teachers in 25,000 schools.

The 10 winning Phase 2 applications in alphabetical order are: the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and Rhode Island.”

By my count, only 3 of the 12 have Republican governors (GA, HI, RI), excluding Charlie Crist in FL who now is an Independent. Probably more revealing is that GA and RI both are open seats in 2010 that RealClearPolitics.com rates as “toss-ups,” so one MIGHT cynically believe awards went to these states to help tip things in a D direction.

This idea is given further credence by noting that FL and MD also are viewed as toss-ups and that OH leans R and MA only “leans D” instead of being likely D. Maybe Barack was helping a black brother solidify his electoral position to avoid another Scott Brown debacle?

HI is a likely D, but the outgoing R governor has been pretty helpful to BHO on the birth certificate issue, so perhaps this was the quid for her quo so to speak.

An alternative way to view this is that RCP lists 9 states in the toss-up category and 4 of these got funded. Leaving aside 4 states in which there is no election (DE, NC) or the seat is safely in D hands (DC, NY), this means that that toss-up states had more than 4 times the chance of getting an award as the remaining states (4/9 vs. 4/38). This COULD have happened by chance, just as it’s POSSIBLE that it was merely coincidence that states with D governors/mayors were about 4 times as likely to get awards as those with R governors. But if I were a betting person, that’s not where I’d put my money.

In his very last campaign, GONH (Gun Owners of New Hampshire) were passing out bumper stickers that said, “Improving Congress is No Swett”

Very cool, considering they could’ve gotten crass. But we’ll leave the hate and bile for the lefties.

Dick and his wife are Mormons. Dick was pro-life. Too bad he was so anti-gun. His vote for the Assault Weapons Ban was his undoing in NH.

Swett’s wife is running as a DemonRAT for Congress or Senate, now. Don’t think she’s gonna make it.

On another note, Swett is the grandson of the late Pearly Swett, the Hermit of Stoddard. He was semi-famous, and was quite a thumb in the eye of the local county officials.

We all were so glad when Schundler was named state education commissioner. This is surprising.

I watched the video. Is it possible that Schundler provided the information later, after what we saw on video? If not, then he did tell a flat-out lie and Christie should’ve fired him.

Whatever the case, the focus on those few points misses all the points lost in other areas. Here’s a pdf file being passed around showing the scorecard:

http://www2.ed.gov/programs/racetothetop/phase2-applications/score-sheets/new-jersey.pdf

I vaguely remember reading articles at one point claiming Christie didn’t want these funds. Wasn’t he worried about what was tied in with these funds? Weren’t there claims that he might flub the application on purpose? Correct me if I’m wrong. But that was the first thing that came to mind when I read there was an error in the application.

Why do States have to grovel and beg the stinking Feds for money that rightfully belongs to the States to begin with. This is the main problem. Obama has the States held hostage and forcing them to fight over the Kings treasure. Screw the Feds. It's not Washing tons money, it's ours.
