VINEYARD HAVEN, Mass. — President Barack Obama is aiming to underscore his commitment to a region weary of calamity as he travels to New Orleans on the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Obama ends his Martha's Vineyard vacation Sunday and heads to the Gulf, five years to the day from when Katrina roared ashore in Louisiana. Eighty percent of New Orleans was flooded when the storm tore through protective levees.

The floods in the mid-west recently were pretty serious. The residents there rolled up their sleeves went to work to restore their communities and did not resort to a “woe is me” attitude. It seems that too many residents in New Orleans have their hand out for government help, while sitting in the wagon waiting for others to pull them. A direct result of the welfare state.

The occasion of the Martin Luther King jr mall speech was a seminal event in American history.

The event was celebrated yesterday on the mall. One can only wonder why the president and black guy in chief failed to attend and honor the greatest of all his kind?

Instead he chooses to celebrate the media event that salvaged a failed Louisiana political disaster and turned it into a victory.

Can’t wait to see Obama talking to some guy who’s been sitting in his living room for five years waiting for somebody to come and repair his house.

MSM pandering the 5-yr anniversary for all it’s worth. Are we still gonna be marking this 50 years from now?

What a moron! Just because Glenn Beck chose the anniversary of MLK’s rally, 0 thinks that this would be suitable retaliation.

My guess is that he still thinks in New Orleans he has some support. Those folks waiting for that Obama money still believe it’s coming to them, and if he can fire them up, he figures his party can win in November and he can push through his socialist agenda. Perhaps he can still dazzle the true believers in New Orleans, but much of the rest of the country is ready to tar and feather him.

Why are we celebrating the 5th anniversary?
It seems weird to me.

Why are we celebrating the 5th anniversary?

Because it's one year after the 4th anniversary! We celebrated that as well.

Poor Barry has to slink into a sewer to find the last constituency he has a grasp of... uneducated dole-sucking scum.

Just why is it that LIBs “celebrate” bad situations and failures. Is it that they closely identify with such things (sort of a primal need to be close to negativity)?

Maybe he’s going to announce lifting the drilling ban to get those guys back to work.

Work? The people he's going down there for don't want to work...they want to live off the money he steals from YOU. Hell, he's there to remind them that they are his homeys and he's in charge now. He'll be sure to let them know that they can sit on their a** and live on your money.

Moochelle will head directly to the Cafe du Monde for Cafe au Lait, 3 plates of powdered sugar coated beignets and a glass of diet orange juice.

Followed by stops into Fat Tuesday for a frozen Cat 5 Hurricane daiquiri, then Pat O'Brien's for a Hurricane in a souvenir glass, and a family trip to The Creole Creamery for ice cream.

Talking about the folks affected by the off shore drilling ban. They were working, not talking about the pond scum.
