... They said Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al-Soofi, 48, a Yemeni living in Detroit who has permanent resident status in the U.S., had merely packed items requested by friends and taped them together to ensure they did not get mixed up.
He and Hezem Abdullah Thabi al-Murisi, 37, a Yemeni who travelled to the U.S. on a visitor's visa, could now walk free from custody in Holland once the FBI has reviewed the evidence.
Last night the FBI said it had yet to make a decision...

Yeah, that's how I would keep items separate.
I heard this story on NPR yesterday morning, and wondered why there were no mention of the nationalities of the men. Now I know the reason.
*Per the 9/11 Report, the 9/11 hijackers did not know each other either.
Is that a Hello Kitty water bottle?
What is the actual purpose of their ridiculous claim that they had these particular things, taped together in the way they were, because friends had asked for them and they didn’t want them to get mixed up? it’s obviously 100% unadulterated garbage. Is anyone expected to believe it?
Whenever I travel, I can’t tell you how many relatives ask me to bring them BOXCUTTERS and KNIVES!!! How stupid do we look?
It looks like cherry flavored Pepto Bismol.
They also had knives and box cutters. Doesn’t everyone travel with those?
Looks more like cherry-flavored Pepto Bismol.
The "US officials" sure figured this out fast. Eric Holder himself musta been the principle investigator

“You know, Ahmed, I really hate it when I get a phone with that ikky-stikky tape stuff all over it. I mean, we are grateful that you can buy so many untraceable phones and bring them to us — but why you can’t jsut leave them in their boxes or maybe a baggie? No. With you, is always with the tape and all that ikky-stikky crap all over them. Stop this on future flights, please!

Who knew zip loc bags were prohibitted by Shiria Law.
Absolutely nothing about the official response of American authorities to this story makes any sense.
In Europe, many airlines have installed GSM cell phone "picocells" in their aircraft that allows passengers to use their own cell phones in flight to make and receive regular cell phone calls.
Since cell phones have been used to detonate IEDs in Iraq and Afghanistan, imagine a cell phone triggered bomb planted in checked baggage in the hold of a picocell equipped aircraft.
You could remotely detonate the bomb with your cell phone, and not even have to try to light your shoe. Or somebody on the ground tracking the flight using FlightAware could call the cell phone in the luggage when the aircraft was over whatever country or landmark they wished to make a statement about.
This would be much more reliable than the pressure switches or simple timers used in the past. If a flight is delayed, the FlightAware website will keep the ground based bomber informed of when the aircraft takes off, and when it is over the infidel country du jour.
Or you could even originate a flight in a third-world country, and just watch the connecting flights as the baggage is transferred, then detonate the bomb during the final leg of the flight into, say, Dulles International.
Scary, scary possibilites.
Excellent points.
Pepto can cause problems with an x-ray.
a medicine (such as Pepto-Bismol) that has bismuth in the last 4 days. Barium and bismuth can block a clear picture.
