McCain On Paul Ryan's Budget Roadmap (maybe to higher FICA taxes, no comment on private accounts)

WALLACE: Let's talk about a few specifics that have come out from some member of the House Republican Caucus, like Paul Ryan with his roadmap and some of the Tea Partiers. Do you support the idea of allowing those under 55 -- not talking about people near retirement now -- allowing people under 55 to put up to a third of their payroll taxes in private accounts?

McCAIN: Frankly, I haven't seen that particular issue and in that detail, but everybody knows, all Americans know that we're going to have to fix Social Security and Medicare. And I notice that the Democrats are focusing in and they've rolled out the tired old, golden oldie that the Republicans are going to destroy Social Security. Which by the way, after Obamacare, they cut Medicare by half a trillion dollars, and also are doing away with Medicare advantage. So we don't talk about Republicans going to cut Medicare. But we need to sit down and we need to do what Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill did and come up with a solution. We know we need to do that, but I can't endorse a specific proposal.

Calling for the usual "bipartisan commission" has become the beltway's favorite (and well used) cop-out.

McCain is nothing more than another politician. He wont take a stand unless he senses direction of the wind is in his favor. Arizona is incredibly stupid to want him back in office.

” But we need to sit down and we need to do what Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neill did and come up with a solution. “

Utter BS!!

The only thing Tip O’Neill ever “came up with” is a fifth of scotch.

McCain is so old-world political solutions.

Canada has got one model we should consider.

They couldn't get their air-traffic control system updated because of bureaucracy. SO they took it out of politicians hands via their version of a 501(c)(3)

This should be where we start, Both Parties and Both Bodies have proven they can't get it done. Also by spinning it off to a non-profit, do not make it a GSE like Fannie and Freddie.

Their are so many 501's that do good for people. Credit Unions and some Churches come to mind.

Perhaps the Senator should consider letting it go given his and like likes of Gramnesty and the Maine Stepsisters to name a few have done to us.....

We need to start an AK. style fund, pay to anyone with a valid So. Sec. number, not taxable, not reportable, and checks expire after 90 days. If you don’t want it, do nothing and the ammount of the chk. goes back into the fund. Also people could cash the chk. and give it to anynone they chose. Also they could donate to the fund. See who would be willing to put their money where their mouth is. Even if this is a small check, it will be a start.
