According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, those who buy health insurance as individuals or through a small business are about to be socked with huge premium increases, ironically as a result of efforts to make health care reform more palatable.

it became clear that health care reform was proving to be unpopular, the Obama administration decided to front load some of the benefits, such as an elimination of lifetime and annual coverage caps. They also included, “—letting children stay on their parents’ insurance policies until age 26, eliminating co-payments for preventive care and barring insurers from denying policies to children with pre-existing conditions.” Unfortunately the addition of these benefits costs considerable money, which health insurance companies now propose to pass along to customers of individual and small business health care plans.

I got a notice in the mail last week that said my premiums were going up.
