Mr. Pat Buchanan has lost all credibility, now. HEY! The Clintons tried to imprison religious folks, and what happened then?

The funny thing is, those two bedfellows wouldn't be that controversial in my own country of Canada.

From Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, section 1:

1. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society. [I added the underlining.]

“Mind you, I don’t even like the idea of burning the Koran because I think it’s gratuitously insulting, but I find myself having to defend it now that these people are attacking it because otherwise we might as well just sit down and put on our collective burkas.”

There’s no need to say you defend it. You really don’t, and I don’t either. I see this as a negative countering an even greater negative. It’s wrong to offend all muslims, but it is even worse to cower before them. Now that the victory mosque is a game changer for the pastor, he at least has a reasonable grievance.

“I can’t believe how a group that represents an infinitesimally small percentage of the population has managed to take over our country so fast.”

I understand that feeling of future shock, but you actually knew that moments like this would happen. Matt Drudge predicted back in the 90s that the internet is the “din of small voices”. People network with all forms of media now, most often indirectly.

“I think Obama will turn out the full force of the federal government to support Islam and suppress dissent. Even if the mosque doesn’t get built for some reason, the war is on now.”

The Ruling Class is plotting what to do right now — a strong response is likely to backfire. Donald Trump tried valiantly to diffuse the situation by paying them off. The imam has no interest in money.

Pandora’s box opened, the pastor showed people that there are ways we little people can strike back. I only hope that we do it smarter next time with less widescale provocation.

I don't recall Buchanan calling for the arrest of the so-called artist or museum curator who displayed a crucifix in urine or the Virgin Mary painted in feces?

Liberals are only outraged when islamm or the koran is disrespected, they cheer when Christians and The Bible are disrespected.

That's a very good point. Many people on FR were saying it was just a Jesse Jackson-type scam and what Rauf really wanted was a pay-off not to build there. But I think that what he really wants is to build there, and that having the GZ mosque is vitally important to Muslims throughout the world. In an interview the other night, he threatened violence if they don't get to build on that site, so this has nothing to do with money. It is their way of declaring that they have won, and even if they haven't yet done so, perception is everything and that is how it will be perceived.

I think we were just not prepared for it, although we certainly should have been. But as you say, it's started now and people have got to think about how to fight back, although it should be a little smarter next time.

There's a firefighter in New York who has filed suit against the mosque as a "nuisance" and a "security hazard," btw.

Both Pat Buchanan .. advocated the arrest of Pastor Terry Jones to prevent his possible burning of Korans and the danger to US troops such act would threaten.

Okay Pat. But on ONE condition.

'WE' get to arrest and detain "for the duration" every 'anti war' commieRAT in Congress and 'the Administration', including every Czar and/or advisor.

Along with every member of of Code Pink, ANSWER, the DSA, the CPUSA, the ACLU, SEIU, Bill Ayers & his 'mrs', etc, etc. PLUS, every registered 'democrat' in America -- for spreading Un-American propaganda, demoralizing the troops, and committing Sedition.

Deal?

(I didn't think so.)

Not according to Trump today on MSNBC. If he had offered $20M there may have been a deal. "Apparently this man is trying to bludgeon investors to pay more than what the property is worth", so says Donald. Has little to do with religion but more to do with greed and they're looking to make a killing on property purchased for $4M and Donald refuses to be taken hostage on a poor piece of real estate.

Buchanan asserted that if Pres. Obama were to follow his advice, conservatives would support him and his popularity would zoom 10% overnight.

What the heck would Buchanan know about the opinions of conservatives?

“What the government is really scared of is the citizens finding out what a crappy job they have done by letting a ton of jihadis into the US to attack us if they don’t get their way.”

This nails it.

Arrest and imprison him? Anyone wonder how a democracy can turn into a totalitarian police state? Way too many of our “opinion leaders” don’t really believe in democracy, or at least not democracy for people they disagree with.

The days of a Jewish ACLU lawyer defending the rights of Nazis to march are behind us.

Yes, the threat of violence [terrorism]. I think it was the imam’s wife on Hannity [radio] yesterday who threatened “smoke” and “fire” if the mosque plan is stopped. Hannity quoted her and her husband’s indirect threat multiple times.

“It is their way of declaring that they have won, and even if they haven’t yet done so, perception is everything and that is how it will be perceived.”

Right. It is a moral builder for our enemy [as one vet said yesterday].

“I think we were just not prepared for it, although we certainly should have been.”

GW Bush did too good a job of walking the tight rope. He had brilliant finesse, and he also spent nearly a trillion dollars — it was also expensive. Bush put too much faith in the American people.

We never wholeheartedly shared his vision of such a pricy long term social engineering effort, nor was it reasonable to expect that a future president would maintain such a brilliant, disciplined, and unified diplomatic team. Sometimes, smart people forget the rule of KISS [Keep It Simple, Stupid.]

So here we are with a product of war fatigue and disfunction.

The solution will remain cloudy until after the midterm election. After that, grownups will lay down the law. I realise that the President is powerful, but there are Constitutional ways of getting around that.

Buchanan long ago lost touch with reality. He peaked with his primary run against Bush Sr. Everything he’s done since then has been a descent into a weird populist madness.

You won’t hear Mika defending free speech unless it’s in support of muslims. She’s an idiot and she hates Sarah.
