A quick settlement has been reached in a copyright infringement lawsuit pitting Righthaven LLC against the largest public relations company in Las Vegas.

Righthaven is a Las Vegas company that regularly sues website operators it says have infringed on copyrighted material generated by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Righthaven filed suit Sept. 1 against Kirvin Doak Communications and partners Dave Kirvin and Bill Doak alleging a Review-Journal story had been posted on the Kirvin Doak website without authorization.

It would be interesting in knowing if these settlements include the relinquishing of 1st amendment rights?

It’s very important that nobody give into this. If enough do, copyright trolls will spring up everywhere and you won’t be able to even discuss a news article online without fear of getting hit with a lawsuit.

In some of the other cases, Righthaven wants to take away their domain name. So they are not only looking for $$, they apparently do want to keep people from expressing their views.

If such settlements are proposed. How can SNY judge sanction such settlements that are clearly unconstitutional. I know Dum/ Leftie judges would do it but that still doesn’t make it acceptable.

Isn’t Righthaven threatening Jim Robinson and Free Republic?

Well I think we can be sure it was more than $0.00 and less than $75,000 and surrender of domain name.

By agreeing to a settlement and surrender of website domain it effectively shuts down freedom of speech.

Yes, imo any judge that approves a settlement based on violations of 1st amendment rights should be impeached.

And it is sort of extortion, that if a party does not agree to relinquishing that right, they will be subjected to expensive Lawsuits.

This whole thing smells to high heaven. And then Lawyers wonder why people have such a low opinion of the profession.
