If Palin runs for president: Her strengths won't be a lot of help
The Chicago Tribune ^ | September 12, 2010 | Steve Chapman

It turns out Sarah Palin left the governorship of Alaska for a better position. She's become king — King Midas, to be exact. Everything she touches turns to gold.

Her memoir, "Going Rogue," was the best-selling hardcover nonfiction volume of 2009. She's got a TV gig with Fox News that reportedly pays $1 million a year. She commands $100,000 for a speaking appearance.

But it's not all about the money. Palin has also become the fairy godmother of the Republican Party. In the Aug. 31 primaries, all five candidates she tapped with her wand came away victorious — including Joe Miller, who upset incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. Those she passed over turned into pumpkins.

"Sarah Palin has special medicine," wrote John Dickerson of the liberal online magazine Slate after the primaries. "The Palin brand now grows ever stronger because other Republicans will want to access that magic."

All that looks like the perfect prelude to something even bigger. After steadfastly refusing invitations for political gatherings in Iowa, site of the first presidential contest in 2012, she's going to Des Moines on Sept. 17 for the Republican Party's annual Reagan Day dinner. To run for president, one local GOP official was quoted saying, "She needs to be here — and she's doing that with a big, high-profile event."

If she enters the race, Palin will have the inside track. A recent Gallup poll found that among Republican voters, she's more popular than Abraham Lincoln, with a 76 percent favorable rating — higher than any other potential GOP presidential candidate listed by Gallup. The nomination is starting to look like it's hers for the asking.

But appearances are deceiving.(continued)

Spending is an issue with a broad base,as is taxation, and it is not usually hard to reach agreement on some kind of spending legislation.

The cultural issues, are much more difficult, but of far greater significance to the identity of the nation, and its ultimate survival.

If we gain ground on those issues with a president that is spiritually astute, and then turn it all over to a destroyer like Christie it would be sad.

I honestly have to say that I think Palin caused more people to vote for McCain than caused people to not vote for McCain.

That's propaganda and they know it. It truly was a 'hold the nose' moment. After learning he was the GOP candidate, I decided not to vote because of my contempt for him and the GOP establishment of picking the weakest of weak candidates. Then came SARAH.

I've never see a candidate with no fire in the belly to win as JuanBoy. She truly saved him a from major embarrassment.

He sat on the couch with Pelosi and whined about Globaloney warming.

And his lovefest with the RINO Dede who flipped her votes over to the rat in the race and not the conservative in the race.

Someone neutered Newt. There is no doubt he will pull a McCain and 'act' conservative because he thinks he has a chance. ONLY THE CLUELESS, the easily persuaded would think he's a possible candidate.

Non-Sequitur to An Old Man

You want extensive experience in major elective office? She ain’t got it.>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Governor of Alaska is a major elective office, because of the size of the state, larger than most European nations, the diversity of its climate, population, as well as its strategic location in defence of the West. Sorry A$$hat. Governor of Alaska is a major elective office.

You want experience in foreign affairs? She ain’t got it.>>>>>>>>>

As governor of Alaska , Palin had more hands on experience with foreign affairs that Oama ever did as a Senator. She negotiated an international treaty and pipe line deal between the State of Alaska, The United States,Oil Companies and the Government of Canada. She also negotiated home porting for fishing fleets from China, South Korea, Japan and Russia. Because of this fact she is highly regarded and even loved in Japan and China, but the MSM didn't report that, WHY? Buahahahahahahahaha!

You want experience in national security matters? She ain’t got it.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Sarah Palin has vast experience in National Security matters , because as Governor of Alaska , and commander Chief of the Alaska National Guard of Land , Air and Sea forces, she was tasked with assuring the efficient array , training and equipage of the Alaska National Guard, THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENCE AGAINST ATTACKS ON THE UNITED STATES BY RUSSIA, NORTH KOREA AND CHINA.You must be incredibly ill informed, or a strategic idiot.

Additionally Sarah Palin's son served in the US Army, deployed to Iraq, Palin is highly regarded in the US military, and has risked her own family in Service. What about Obama, what has he given to National Security, what military service has he rendered, what security experience did he have as an Illinois Senator, besides helping the Islamic Brotherhood of Somalia try to take over Kenya by supporting and campaigning for Muslim Rial Odinga of the Kenya Muslim Orange party. Yeah...RIGHT. Obamas National Security Experience before his election was to help create tribal warfare and genocide on behalf of Kenya's Orange Party, causing the death of 15,000 innocent men, women and children, 70 of whom were burned alive in a church! And by comparison Palin had no national security experience? Buahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Sara Palin has national security experience! You are clearly an idiot , bereft of facts. But why?

Ooops I forgot. You are an Obama kool aid drinker troll, You have tingles down your leg that make you say nasty things about Sarah Palin. We get it.

That makes you and your kind little better thinkers than American Zombies, just one step removed from the Night of the Living Dead.

Go pound sand.

Governor of Alaska is a major elective office, because of the size of the state, larger than most European nations, the diversity of its climate, population, as well as its strategic location in defence of the West. Sorry A$$hat. Governor of Alaska is a major elective office.

And she quit half way through for one of three or four reasons, take your pick.

Buahahahahahahahah

If she actually did that then she violated the Constitution, Article I, Section 10 specifically. But since she didn't, no harm no foul.

By your definition every governor is a military expert since each was, titularly, the head of their national guard. What a bunch of nonsense.

Additionally Sarah Palin's son served in the US Army...

So did Biden's son, and Biden's an idiot.

Sara Palin has national security experience! You are clearly an idiot , bereft of facts. But why?

I'm not bereft of facts, just not blessed with your creative imagination.

I agree with your sentiments, but to think as conservatives we have a mandate when libs dominate all our institutions is sheer folly. We are far more left leaning today as a country than when Reagan came on the scene, like it or not. You and I may not be, but we are in a minority.

Right now we are going to take back the house and possibly the senate more on revulsion against the Obamacrats than on conservative principles and that is unfortunate.

To think we can win the electorate we have today, and then in 2012 with an all conservative ticket isn't grounded in reality.

Our best hope is to at least get the top of the ticket to be conservative, and not a McCain or Dole (or Romney!!!) type. We'll have to deal with the political landscape if and when that happens. Right now we are needing to focus on November and neutering these creeps called democrats. Come 2012, if we are fortunate enough to get a solid conservative at the top, rather than a Romney, he or she will choose how to win, much like Reagan did in 1980. He chose to use a moderate to get elected, I doubt that will change if we get a conservative nominated.

We shall see how it plays out, yes?
