If Yvonne Hiller killed her coworkers at the Kraft Foods baking plant in Northeast Philadelphia last week as charged, she would join a rare - but possibly emerging - breed: women as workplace killers.
Women commit fewer than 5 percent of homicides and assaults in the workplace, said Larry Barton, a teacher at the FBI Academy and author of four books on crisis management and violence at work.
And, as a rule, they're much less likely to kill in general than men. They tend to internalize their anger or use words rather than haul out a gun in a public place and open fire, experts say.
But in the last year, several high-profile cases of women killing in the workplace have occurred, including a professor accused of killing three colleagues and wounding three others in a February rampage after being denied tenure at the University of Alabama in Huntsville

She returned and pressed her way in by holding two unarmed security guards at gunpoint, authorities said.
I am sure Kraft has a "no weapons" policy, but did not provide armed security.
Personally, I hope they have their asses sued off.
But they said she was a ‘very spiritual Muslim’! She can’t be responsible for what others obviously caused to happen. /s
Wait a minute. As charged? Why would she be charged with such a thing?
Maybe manufacturing plants still have guards, but most offices don’t, armed or not.
When I started working in the high-tech world 25 years ago, even small offices had security guards. But now offices, even headquarters that house the CEO, rely on electronic security badges. Wouldn’t take much for an ex-employee to charm his/her way in, or simply break the all-glass doors that front many buildings.
A black Muslim got violent? That is unusual in the extreme. Truly.
Didn’t see that one coming. No sir. Not the usual suspect at all.
'Very spiritual' Muslim woman kills 2 in factory shooting...
Isn’t it nice to see that women are making strides in a traditionally male-dominated area.
Has anyone seen a picture of this woman? I have read several articles but none carry a photo of the perp. I’m curious to see whether a picture is worth a thousand words on this one and is thus being suppressed.

Nowhere in the column did they remember to mention that she was black or a devout Muslim. Poor research IMO.
Women commit the greatest number of murders every year. It’s called abortion.
Thanks. As I suspected, it is worth a thousand words — black and muslim, leathal combination.
Man, that is one hate-filled woman. Maybe if she had directed some of that anger towards the people who sold her ancestors into slaves, instead of joining their “religion”, the world would be a better place.
very spiritual muslim = mass murdering pig
so you got fired, so someone thought you sucked ahhh waaaaa, grow up manic idiots..
excellent point !
She was a Muslim, for crying out loud. In other words, the usual suspect.
Alison DuBois, the psychic, had one of her typical ambiguous dreams about something bad that was going to happen, this time concerning her husband, who worked at an aerospace company.
On hubby's his way into the plant the next morning, a co-worker happened to walk up to the entrance at the same time as psychic's hubby, and said he'd lost his badge; would hubby please flash him in?
What hubby didn't know was that the guy had been fired the day before, and was coming back into the plant with a gun. A little while later hubby and boss were taken as hostages by the firee. Boss ended up shot before they got psycho/gunman/disgruntled ex-employee.
Women are just obtaining their equal rights, more and more.
