The bag contained enough of the crystallized substance to wipe out the neighborhood, OLoughlin said
A Northeastern University lab techs suspected suicide by cyanide - 30 miles away from campus - is raising public safety fears over easy access to deadly chemicals days after the ninth anniversary of 9/11.
The 30-year-old NU lab tech - identified by the school as Emily Staupe - was found dead early yesterday morning in her Milford bedroom along with what initial tests show was a plastic bag filled with crystallized cyanide, according to Milford and state police.
Neil Livingstone, a Washington, D.C., terrorism expert, said Staupes apparent method of suicide shines a light on the problem of lax security at universities across the country.
This should be a wake-up call, said Livingstone, president of ExecutiveAction. What if her name were Mohammed Atta (a leader of the 9/11 plot) instead?
If shed been a bad guy and gotten hold of a significant amount of cyanide . . . who knows? Livingstone said. Cyanide is a good weapon of assassination or for killing a small number of people.

On Saturday, according to Milford police Chief Thomas OLoughlin, Staupe took a Boston-bound train to Northeastern and entered a Northeastern lab...." He said it appears she was rushing, because in her haste, she locked the door and left her keys inside.
Family members told police that she may have been losing her job. Northeastern declined to comment today on the womans employment and a spokeswoman expressed condolences for her family
Prayers up for the family. Tough to see a young woman think that life is over because she lost her job.

Then he would be a racist for being concerned about it, and all muslim university students would be given free cyanide just to ensure their rights are not being infringed.
What frackin aaholes. What is the US authorities going to do? Outlaw everything because everything is a potential weapon of mass destruction. Well if it is that potent in the hands of possible terrorists, then why in the blazes does the US allow Muslims to immigrate into the country? They want to stop terrorism, then do not import candidates for terrorism into the US. Problem reduced to acceptable risk. Otherwise it is like inviting a murderer into your house and then try to safeguard every item in the house that can be used to kill you and your family.
OMG! Outlaw apricots, cherries, apples, plums, almonds, peaches! Let's outlaw watermelon while we're at it!
We're Doomed, I tell ya'! D-O-O-M-E-D!
Where's Fat-Mammy (aka "Big Sis") when she's needed?
Where's the FDA? Where's the EPA? Where's the KGB?!
It's time for a demonstration!
This doesn't need a /sarc tag, does it?
It was at about midnight on Saturday, when Emily Staupe - distraught, jobless and 30 - apparently bid farewell to all her Facebook friends.
Each one of you has made my life special, a friend said she wrote, just a few hours before her family found her dead in her bedroom, police said.
A bag of crystallized cyanide was by her side, authorities said.
Today between walking from the ice to my car, my heart shattered, and I left my soul behind somewhere, she wrote. All I want right now is my cat Sniff, and my pillow, and to say goodnight.
There's no point in making the incident sound like it was terrorist related or a national disaster.
“The kid” was 30.
So any of you first responders out there come up to a vehicle with the windows fogged or the driver slumped over and all the windows closed, wait for further help!
If your reaction to this story is “how can government keep us safe?” or “the government needs to regulate this!” or “there needs to be a law...”, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM and YOU ARE why we live in a communist country.
I understand terrorists are studying the feasibility of hijacking aircraft armed only with stiletto heels. Why has congress not regulated the ownership, production, importation, and brandishing of such footwear?!?!
You could put an eye out!
I'm just not that darn picky with my selection of FB friends.
