WASHINGTON (AFP) Insurgent US "Tea Party" conservatives scored another big upset victory, as a political novice routed a veteran lawmaker to become the Republican contender for Vice President Joe Biden's old senate seat.
With all precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Christine O'Donnell had beaten popular moderate Representative Mike Castle by a 53.1-46.9 percent margin in the Republican primary in the small US East Coast state of Delaware.
"The voters in the Republican primary have spoken and I respect that decision," Castle said in a somber concession speech in which he did not endorse his rival following a bitter weeks-long battle.
O'Donnell, who survived charges of past financial improprieties, harnessed anti-establishment anger and rode an endorsement from former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin to a stunning victory.
"The people of Delaware have spoken: No more politics as usual," O'Donnell told cheering supporters in her victory speech.
Despite the "Tea Party" exuberance, the results handed Democrats a lifeline in their uphill struggle to hold Biden's seat in an election cycle defined by deep voter anger at the sour economy and unemployment near 10 percent.
Recent opinion polls had showed Castle expected to cruise to victory over Democratic county executive Chris Coons, who leads O'Donnell amid establishment Republican predictions that she cannot win in November.
"He'll win the general election. She won't," Tom Ross, chairman of the state's Republican Party was quoted as saying in the Washington Post this week.
Tea Party members scoffed at such predictions, and some analysts have warned Democrats that they underestimate the potential threat from the movement's energized supporters at their own peril.
In New Hampshire, another outsider with "Tea Party" support, Ovide Lamontagne, reportedly led former state attorney general Kelly Ayotte, an establishment pick who also enjoyed Palin's support.

How ‘bout them freedom fighters!
There definitely appears to be some sort of pattern beginning to take shape here...;))
The MSM is already in smear mode.
You should see the pic of O’Donnell on SFGate:

let them smear. Look how well it has worked for them so far.
Shades of Paul Revere..
One if by land..
Two if by TEA. :-)
The RNC is no different than the Demorats ;they don’t like the people actually having a voice, they just want you to vote for the
That is What they do. Fortunately she accepted this against her or someone else. If the libs hate her she must be pretty cool.
There is still 2012. The real conservative “Republican” has taken a beating over the last 4 or 5 years when in reality they were these moderates. (And ‘moderate’ has been ever so slightly moved left at the same time).
There is nothing wrong with gridlock, which in itself is a victory. The One would much rather have a Senate and House he can campaign against for the next two years. He's doing his best to blame Republicans despite the Dem majority but people see though his propaganda. Should there be enough of his Dems left they will still own all the screwed up stuff they have created.
We are just putting the brakes on this runaway DC gaggle of clowns during this midterm. We don't need an (R) to contribute to this disaster in Washington which is exactly what we would have had with Castle.
Zero can't buy his way into a Democrat party function right now. Some of the Dems are questioning WTH he is doing. He can't campaign on anything this regime has done because no one likes it. Over time, the fewer Republicans cross over the better leading up to 2012.
I don't care how left Delaware is or what kind of a chance Castle would bring to get another (R) on the roll. If ODonnel wins, and I'd not saying she can't, it's just a bonus.
The NRSC has shows its ass hopefully for the last time (see Florida and the idiot Crist fiasco). It's all about principle now. It has to start sometime.
It’s a preview of what the MSM is going to do.
They are going to “Palin” O’Donnell.
It’s already started.
Groan or is it Grown?
How much are they paying Rove?
God bless America!
Duly noted Paul Revere was "the media" of his day. The one we have today will assuredly not be kind to Tea Party members, their favored candidates, nor the support of key conservatives.
Snips:
. Nickname: Messenger of the Revolution
. After the Boston Tea Party, Revere became a messenger for the Boston Committee of Public Safety, often delivering messages to New York and Philadelphia about the events unfolding in Boston.
. Paul Revere was one of the ringleaders of the Boston Tea Party on May 10, 1773. After the Tea Party, he was sent by the citizens of Boston to deliver news of the party to the other colonists in New York and Philadelphia.
. As a courier for the Boston Committee of Correspondence and the Massachusetts Committee of Safety, Paul Revere delivered numerous messages to and from these groups to other patriots around New England. He delivered the news of the Boston Tea Party to New York and to Congress in Philadelphia.
There’s something happening here...
If "any" news anchor, news channel or media spokesperson begins an assault on Tea Party candidates, the assaults should be met with non-listener/viewership, or cancellation of radio/cable/satellite channels that give voice and video to the miscreant attempting to deconstruct tea party efforts, followed up by written explanation to "educate" those whose pockets have been consistently filled with our hard-earned wages/income. Money DOES talk.
guess he wasn’t so “popular”, he lost.
The RNC is no different than the Demorats ;they dont like the people actually having a voice...I don't subscribe to the "both parties are the same" idea, but I do believe there are too many elitists in the RNC and they need to be swept out. Beating their hand-picked candidates is the first step to cleaning them out of our party. The R party is OUR party, not theirs.
