Carter: It's Kennedy's fault the U.S. doesn't have comprehensive healthcare
The Hill (Washington, D.C.) ^ | 9/16/10 | Michael O'Brien

Former President Jimmy Carter lashed out at the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), who he blamed for lack of comprehensive healthcare in the U.S. Carter lashed out at Kennedy, who passed away in August of 2009, for the 1979 clash between the two over the national healthcare plan Carter had proposed. "The fact is that we would have had comprehensive health care now, had it not been for Ted Kennedy’s deliberately blocking the legislation that I proposed,” Carter said in an interview to air Sunday on "60 Minutes" on CBS. “It was his fault. Ted Kennedy killed the bill."

Wow, 1979. We’d have a $100 trillion debt now and intense rationing. Oh well, that was postponed 30 years I guess.

It’s going to be fun as Carter won’t shut up as he grows more senile!

What an idiot. Can’t blame Bush so pick on dead people. They can’t defend themselves, it’s easy!

Ted Kennedy killed the bill.

Wow. Mary Jo... this bill. Just one more and he could be classified as a mass murderer...

Don't forget that Fat Teddy ran against President Peanut in the 1980 primary. Teddy probably killed the bill so Carter wouldn't have any accomplishments to wave at the leftist Dem voters.

“They can’t defend themselves, it’s easy!”

This is a typical Dem half-truth. Did Kennedy oppose Carter’s bill? Absolutely. Could Carter’s bill ever have passed even if Ted Kennedy drowned at Chappaquiddick? Absolutely not. Jimmy seems to be taking a page from Obama’s book: blaming everyone else but the guy in the mirror for his own failures.

That show is still on? Really?
Last time I saw it on TV was circa 1970's.
(I was in high school then.)

While I don’t mind seeing Carter stir the pot a bit, I can’t imagine that health care legislation that couldn’t get past Ted Kennedy would have a chance of passing the full Senate. Not in 1979, anyway.
