Iran Breaking: Karroubi Intervenes with Letter to Rafsanjani "Take Charge"
Enduring America ^ | September 18, 2010

Posted on 09/18/2010 7:23:47 PM PDT by nuconvert

BBC Persian is reporting that opposition figure Mehdi Karroubi has made a pointed intervention with a letter to former President Hashemi Rafsanjani, in Rafsanjani's capacity as the head of the Assembly of Experts.

Karroubi's letter, sent to Rafsanjani just before this week's bi-annual Assembly meeting, called on the Assembly to exercise its powers to "monitor the functions and institutions under the auspices of Iran's Supreme Leader". Karroubi cited problems such as "a lack of independence of the judiciary and courts", the interference of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps and Basij militia in political issues, and the IRGC's expanded involvement in Iran's economy.

And, in an even more provocative challenge, Karroubi pointed to the Assembly's powers, under the Iranian Constitution, to remove the Supreme Leader if he becomes incapable of carrying out his supervisory role.

The un-subtle message: if Ayatollah Khamenei won't step up and take control of the Revolutionary Guard and security forces, ensuring the independence of the courts and upholding the Constitution, then Rafsanjani and the Assembly need to do so.

Mir Hossein Mousavi's website Kalemeh had reported on Wednesday that Karroubi had written a letter to Rafsanjani "to be September 18, 2010 released in forthcoming days".

None of these fellows is exactly a friend of western powers. So a bunch of radicals is trying to eliminate or seize power from another radical within the Iranian government.

Ahmadinejad is trying to associate himself with Cyrus the Great:

Iran's President Mahmud Ahmadinejad on Sunday attended the unveiling in Tehran of the Cyrus Cylinder, which is on loan from the British Museum. The cylinder dates from the 6th Century BC and is thought by many to be the first charter of human rights. It will be on public display for four months.

During the event, the Iranian president put a keffiyeh, which is part of the uniform of the pro-government Basij militia, around the neck of a man dressed as Cyrus the Great. In a dispatch titled “Cyrus The Great Becomes A Basij Member,” the hard-line Fars news agency wrote that when Ahmadinejad decorated “Cyrus the Great” with the black-and-white keffiyeh, all the foreign ambassadors and other guests present at the ceremony stood up.

Iranian MP criticizes Ahmadinejad for praising Cyrus The Great

It seems that the president has made the remarks under the influence of his advisor, Esfandiar Rahim Mashaii, who has recently proposed that Iran promote the Iranian School of Thought instead of the Islamic School of Thought, the MP said.

The president should be aware that he is obligated to promote Islam and not ancient Iran, and if he fails to fulfill his obligation, he will lose the support and trust of the Muslim nation of Iran, he added.

Over the yrs, IRI has labelled Cyrus the Great: a dictator, a homosexual, & now they’re implying he was a pro-Palestinian muslim (no doubt in disguise!).

“Keffiyeh” is a loose hanging cloth that Arab Sheikhs wear on their heads. For “pro-government Bassji militia” in Iran, the black & white Keffiyeh is their way of sympathising with the Palestinians - remember Yasser Arafat?

The deliberate stupidity of the British Museum is Also on display in the Mullah-land. Only the UN & IRI can top it. Well, I won’t mention a few others who would sell their souls to continue to do business w/the terrorist regime in Iran, mostly behind the scenes.

Sounds like Ahmadinejad can’t stand the idea of paying tribute to Cyrus in any way or get rid of Iranians’ love & respect for Cyrus, so he has to try to transform him into pro-Palestinian basiji instead.

If they do not return it they will never get any other artifacts on loan. This might be a litmus test.

IRI exploits pre-Islamic Iranian culture in the West - I don't know any Canadians on FR. Those who might be interested should be alerted & informed not to fall for the mentioned misrepresentation & exploitation by the Islamic Iranian Regime. The same trend per above link & story applies to other aspects of the pre-Islamic Iranian culture in the West, as represented by IRI or its affiliate group(s).

Check out the demonstrations in Tehran - video

Tehran echoed with tolls of “Allah-o-akbar” last night as Iranians expressed their protest to the increasing pressures on the opposition leaders, Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroub

Admsmith, pls do not ping me on payvand site, I know them well enough. They are mouthpieces of the Reformists of IRI (like Karroubi & Moussavi), but for the same Islamic Regime in Iran. They appear sympathetic towards non-Islamic Iranian cultural events such as poetry, music, theatre, celebrations etc.. But, then they never cease the opportunity to promote IRI when they get the chance, any way they can. Personally, I’m not into this type of duplicity & hypocrisy by IRI mouthpieces. We’ve had plenty of that in the last 31 yrs, with the help of IRI inclined non-Iranians & Iranians. Thanks.

>>>”Tehran echoed with tolls of “Allah-o-akbar” last night as Iranians expressed their protest to the increasing pressures on the opposition leaders, Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroub”

As for the above, I was told by several Iranians, in Iran recently, about Moussavi, Karroubi & any reformist supporters of IRI that “we should let them figure it out with other factions of IRI” and that we should not fret too much if “Death becomes them” in settling their “internal” differences. Best wishes.

I can not remember sites that someone do not want to be pinged to, this implies that if you are offended by any particular site my only option is to stop pinging you.
