A Minneapolis man has been charged with assault for dousing a woman with battery acid.
Twenty-eight-year-old Jarso Yohannes Adem was charged with second degree assault in Hennepin County District Court Thursday.
According to a criminal complaint, a woman, identified only as "SM," was walking along the 3700 block of Louisiana Avenue South in St. Louis Park Tuesday when Adem approached her, demanding she speak with him. When she refused, Adem splashed the woman with a clear liquid he was carrying in a plastic drink bottle.
A nearby jogger heard the victim scream and followed Adem to a nearby parking lot, where he was apprehended by police.
He later told authorities he'd dumped the liquid contents of a car battery in the plastic bottle, planning to confront the woman on her way home from school. Adem admitted to splashing the woman when she refused to speak to him anymore.
The victim suffered significant blisters and redness on her face, hand and neck, the complaint states.
Adem is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 12. He was being held in the Hennepin County Jail Friday evening.
