Colin Powell says he doesn’t hire illegal immigrants (hmmm?)

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has clarified his recent remarks on immigration policy, saying he does not hire illegal immigrants to do repairs on his home. The onetime secretary of state for George W. Bush waded into one of the most contentious culture-war issues of 2010 during an appearance Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press"  -- the latest in a series of dissensions from conservative orthodoxy that have prompted some of his former GOP colleagues to question his party allegiance.

"I don't hire illegal immigrants," Powell said in a statement Monday.

They aren’t “undocumented workers”. They have FALSIFIED DOCUMENTS.

They should suffer the same penalties as minors who get fake IDs. No student loans. No driver’s license. No security clearance...

He added: “They’re all over my house, doing things whenever I call for repairs, and I’m sure you’ve seen them at your house. We’ve got to find a way to bring these people out of the darkness and give them some kind of status.”

Powell did not say whether he’s hired illegal immigrants directly or they showed up with contractors.

The Boston Globe ripped Romney to shreds because of this. He hired a landscape service that has been in business for years and they had recently hired some “undocumented” laborers. The Globe said that he was responsible for checking their legal status.

He’s still in the wrong - he should have sent the crew home and contacted the contractor and said until you hire legals you won’t be working on my house.

That’s what we did when illegals showed up on the painter’s crew. They went home and we threatened to turn him in if he didn’t return our money. It took a while but we found someone that hired only legals. Yes, we paid more, but people that took the right path deserve to be paid more.

Without immigrants, America would be like Europe or Japan with an aging population and no young people...

The reason Europe and Japan have aging populations is that they aren't growing their own kids - generations of "only children", no brothers, no sisters, no aunts, no uncles, no cousins ....

The immigrants in Europe, who are having kids (as Mark Steyn put it, "Starts with 'M' and ends with 'uslim'), are having kids who will eventually saw the heads off the native Europeans.

"More immigrants" is not the answer.
