The two Blockbuster stores I’ve visited are in strip malls with high vacancy already. Another blow to a depressed real estate market. I guess another dollar store will move in.

Let’s not forget that municipal LIBRARIES are de facto competitors with Blockbuster.

A lot of videos at Blockbuster can be borrowed from many local libraries.

Why should I rent videos and pay money for these when I can borrow them FOR FREE in the public library?

They have very little chance to survive if taxpayer funded places become your competitors.

In our area, we had a Dollar Store that was in a strip mall for years. I liked to stop in there and pick up some of the junk stuff that I didn’t really want to pay good money for at other retail stores.

I drove by not long ago and they had big “Going out of business” signs out. I wrote them off, then the other day I saw that they had been replaced by a “Dollar Tree” store. Stopped in to look. Different layout, different “brands” but basically a dollar store.

So even when the dollar store goes out of business, a dollar store takes its place. Fitting, I guess.
